I'm just saying that calling it "legends" is a bit of a misnomer considering that "legend" implies that you're one of the all time greats of your sport.
But it's not even just this.
Willie Mays has 40 speed.
Willie. Mays.
The Say Hey Kid doesn't have 40 speed.
They also don't look like their namesakes, nor act like them (they don't have their unique batting stances).
At least all the streamer players are more powerful than all the Legends. The Goat Herd creator made himself S++ for cryin' out loud. S++!
They made one legend look like their namesake…David Ortiz, so that they could use him in the promos and allow us to assume all the legends would look like their namesakes. It's quite obvious the "legends" are just there for marketing purposes, like "hey, guys, SMB is TOTALLY serious business!" I mean, they didn't capture any of Johnny Damon's facial features. Just looks like a generic character with long hair and beard.
The announcer can't even pronounce their names right.
And you could create your own legends simply by typing in their names (hell, because their first/last names are in the offered names in the player creator, I could recreate Willie Mays myself and make him FLY like he should!)
It's like having hockey legends, but instead of Yzerman, you pick John Scott. Or Tim Couch instead of Joe Montana.
Maybe there were some snags in the acquistion of legends, but no Yogi Berra? No Roberto Clemente? No Cy Young? No Mickey Mantle? No Willie McCovey? No Cal Ripken Jr? No Lou Gehrig? No Harmon Killebrew? No Al Kaline? No Hank Greenberg? No Reggie Jackson? No Satchel Paige? No Honus Wagner? No Ted Williams? No Roger Clemens?
Might as well have not used "legends" all together, but a more general term. They don't even have more recognizable names like McGwire, Sosa, Griffey Jr, Ichiro. I'm just saying they're really stretching the word legends here, that's all. I mean, I scratch my head when Stan Musial isn't in the game, but they got Brett Butler, whose sole career highlight was that he was an all star in '91.
I'm disappointed not so much in the game, but what the game lacks based on what EA is asking me to pay for it. As a (custom) franchise only player the lack of extra customization, additional baseball stats, instant replay, import tool, and a few other things makes this a hard pass for me, mostly because of the AAA asking price. I play franchise pretty much exclusively and would have loved to have seen some of these. Once you ask folks to fork over 60 dollars at that point you can't lean on that "oh this is an arcade baseball game, it's cartoony, so don't take it seriously" Oh no buddy, that goes right out the window when you charge people the same amount of money as FIFA or Madden. Now you have to face the same scrutiny those games get, but folks seem to think that it's tantamount to blasphemy to do so, especially that one guy who keeps following me around while seemingly ignoring everyone else who's expressing the same opinions. You can critique a game and still like it at the same time; people don't seem to get that. Instead, they have to boast online how they are "REAL" fans and all that. Nobody said you couldn't like the game. Enjoy it! But to see grown ass adults (presumably) get so bothered over this....crazy world we live in indeed.
Imagine finding someone disliking a game to be a reason how "crazy" the world is, too, as opposed to wars, famines, etc, too.
I wish I was that sheltered.
Don't bother with that guy. He is just fixated on me because I was the only one to bite on his bait thread. If it was anyone else, he'd be following them too. I just blocked him, ain't got time for that. Grown ass men whining that people dislike a video game. Glorified toys for kids. Crazy world we live in.
And that Biden reference. Oof. Politics has nothing to do with gaming but he has to show how redpilled or whatever he is, I guess. Funny how the "redpilled" folks always make political references like the "woke" do. Two sides of the same annoying wingcuck coin.
I'm going to sleep on it but I'm surprisingly happy with the purchase.
