Regarding unique weapons

so to unlock them I have to play the previous stage to unlock it but does that mean I must continue the play through from that stage forward or can I load a save state/level that is more recent once unlocked

Oh okay sick so I can get it once I do NG+ so the G18c can wait, cheers! admittedly I glossed over that particular section I just was following the pictures
