Switching between versions?
Okay so, may seem like an idiot here. When I first started I picked stable, not realizing that I'd probably prefer the Beta version. Is there a way to just switch between the two off the steam ver., or do I have to download the beta off the website? I'd prefer not to have the same program twice but hey I was dumb lmao

You have to download previous versions from their website.
You can then add the beta version to your library as a non-Steam game and have both versions on Steam.

Er. There's really no reason to use the beta version unless your PC is seriously struggling to run the stable version. The beta version is older and no longer updated. There's no way to get the beta version from Steam.

There's nothing the beta version could do that the stable version currently can't do iirc. All the tools are still there, they just might be moved around a bit. You can still make your own hair using the hair tool, you can still draw and use your own clothing, skin, eye, hair, etc textures. Most users still seem to prefer drawing textures in an outside program (Photoshop, SAI, Krita, whatever their drawing program of choice is) and importing the .PNG files rather than drawing them directly in Vroid Studio.

Most of the complaints from when the stable version first released were from beta users unused to the new interface (and the stable version was missing a few features from the beta, at first. That's no longer the case. I think the only thing that the beta version could do that the stable version can't is asymmetrical shoe textures. And it's been a very long time since I opened the beta version, so I'm not even 100% certain about that. If your heart is set on asymmetrical shoe textures for whatever reason, it's a relatively easy change to make in Blender or something after you're otherwise done with the model.)

However, there are a lot of features that the beta lacks. Clothing meshes/templates, all the clothing textures, all the hair presets, the eye textures, the body suit feature that allows for more flexibility in model body shape, etc. The beta version does not have built in support for eyeglasses or animal ears.

Plus nearly all the textures and hair styles people make and share on Booth now are made for the stable version.

Speaking of sharing user made assets, it's possible to share complete clothing items now. It's no longer necessary to import the texture onto the correct template and fiddle with adjusting the sliders. The beta version can't import and export complete clothing items like that.

Is there a particular reason you want to use the beta version? I've personally been noticing that sometimes I can't edit the bones of my custom hair in the Steam version of stable, but I don't have that issue in the standalone version of the stable release. So I just switched back to the standalone version of stable.

I was under the impression that the beta had more functions than the stable. I had seen some info on the beta but I guess it must've been old if the stable is the exact same. There's no reason for me to use the beta otherwise lol

That's my mistake. Thanks for clearing up my confusion.
