Report a translation problem
It is indeed so that Tycoon Points are charged immediately, but the ordered research should start once a qualified Alchemist finishes their current task and arrives at the Research Lab to work on it.
The only way I can see this not to work is if you manually excluded the Research Lab from all your Alchemists's assignments and the research task will never be attended to as a result of that.
Please provide more details or explanations if you think I'm missing something here.

We sure will. Thank you for the extra explanations—we'll try to reproduce the problem at our end and look into it further.
We tried all sorts of normal and unusual ways we could think of to activate around 20 different research goals, and they all worked: the tycoon points were consumed and research commenced just fine.
This leads us to believe that there must be a situational component of some sort to your struggles. What this component could be is a complete mystery so far, we don't have any hunches yet.
If you're up for helping us further, though, you could provide the following:
- a save from a house where this issue frequently happens (the save you mentioned you had made before starting a new research will do perfectly)
- a log from a session where the incident happened, ideally stating which research goal activation triggered the problem (log gets overwritten by the most recent session, so you might need to load a save where the problem occurs first)
- a video clip of the problem occurring as it could help point out if there's something unusual going on around in the house or game in general.

So did you send anything yesterday or not? We received an email which referred to this very issue and forum discussion. We tested the enclosed save and were not unfortunately able to reproduce the problem with it—the research always starts as intended no matter what we do.
So, if it was your email, we might need more than a save, a log from after the bugged research and a video perhaps.

The logs are located in the same folder where the saves are: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\LocalLow\Snowhound\PotionTycoon
The latest Player.log is always overwritten by the most recent play session, so in order to get it to point at a specific issue, you need to load a save where that issue can be reproduced (or already occurred), make it happen, and only then grab the log and toss it to us via email. Please send us both the log and the save. Thank you!
