Did you happen to move any rooms around the house before the customers' disappearance? The most likely reason for customers to not show up is that they can't access a cash register. And that in turn could happen if you moved the room it is in so that that it is disjointed from the rest of the house or lacks access to a staircase connecting it to the ground floor. Please check your house layout carefully and let us know if that's the case.
