You can swap and make your AI partners hold position in rooms, mostly they will follow you around and you can buy new weapons for them etc
Multiplayer co-op from what i see is host-only progress and you take control of 1 of 3 heroes
So far having a blast just like all other Endless series games, plays fine solo
While I wish the a.i player would use their Area of Effect abilities more, i've been managing without them for the most part. Honestly, the frustrations are always on me not having enough industry and good Level RNG to survive the lower levels, than the A.I doing a bad job.
Just have fun with the difficulty but at least it not as brutal as before
The game plays nothing like the predecessor as it's a different genre.
But form what I have seen, I have to play with AI to play Solo. I also don't understand this "Host Progression". I don't progress if I join other people's games?
For the progression in multiplayer, we've just published a blog article to explain how it works and what changes we're working on for the future. See here:

I play it with a controller. Tried mouse & keyboard as well for troubleshooting matters.
I know the solo gameplay and multiplayer gameplay very well and play both equally. It is fun solo. Not sure what else I could write about it. It might be easier if you have very specific questions in that regards. In singleplayer the pacing is much slower for obvious reason. So I play it quite relaxing.
