This thread is for better visibility for those who are looking for this information. I added it to my guide as well, but I know hardly anyone will read that, so here you have it as forums thread easy to find via Google.

The issue can be misinterpreted by people who have not started the game solo. They tend to describe it along the lines

"the tutorial worked"
"but then whenever I launch a game it gets stuck at loading screen"

The misunderstanding here is that if you actually start the game in singleplayer it should work. You get instantly into the Saloon. But since the loading looks the same whether you host or play singleplayer, it get easily misunderstood.

More clear is it when you try to join a game and encounter the same issue.

It is not the game which makes life hard for you in that regards, but your security app. You might either have missed a prompt for enabling the game to communicate within the network, or your security setting is quite tight to begin with. In rare cases even the router might be the blocker.

Whitelisting the game in the security app for network communication fixes the issue.

The effect is easy to test by hosting a game with the security app temporarily deactivated e.g. Keep in mind that for some security apps you have to repeat the process of whitelisting with certain game updates due to how the app recognises or not recognises an updated executable of the game as new app for your device.

I remember you wrote before that the advice did not help you.
But I cannot assist you if I do not know what security apps and router you use.
Have you done the internet reset as suggested as well?

Internet Reset, dnsflush, Rounter is a genric Telecom (german) router, secruity app is Avast!


i had no problems before with any game. this it the first time i experience something like this. currently downloading the game again. maybe something went wrong with the first install.

and i am still missing parts of my Last Wish Edition preorder pack .. so .. maybe that is a clue?

ewww. Deutsche Telekom? One of those... what are they called... Speedsports? I hate those >.<

We need to make sure by all means that you got the ports needed open. Did you whitelist the app correctly in Avast?

No, that is a different issue, but something the developers are working on. After a Steam restart it should be good. Give it a try.

I wish you wholeheartedly good luck!
And do not think I give up on your issue - it is just I want it to be as clear as possible if you have the same issue which can be solved the same way or you have a different issue. If the issue still persists after you downloaded it etc. etc. pp. please check if singleplayer game works. Because that is the best indicator. Singleplayer works, but as soon as one hosts or tries to join they get stuck.

okay, fresh new install, steam newly started, PC reboot. avast OFFLINE (and still exceptions added), game files verified

singleplayer stuck at 50% loadingscreen
multiplayer hosting stuck at 99%
multiplayer joining stuck at 99%
-> backgroundmusik still playing. No Crash or Freeze ... just .. infinite loadingscreen

funfact: i was able to play in the closed beta without any problems (besides beta bugs)

okay update:

deactivating VOIP in the game menu has some results:

still singleplayer and multiplayer hosting not possible
BUT
i can join a multiplayer game of a FRIEND with invite or joinging over steam ffriendlist.
-> but game will crash as soon as i open a menu or steam overlay, and i cant see my hero

Alright. Something is messing with the game hard. Are you using discord experimental features or anything else which might cause some sort of stream?

Ideally creating a new Windows user without any autorun apps and seeing there if the game launches. Then we can pinpoint the issue slowly and steady.
