Papa's Quiz is an underrated, quirky and fun little trivia game. It plays very similarly to the popular Jackbox games, but with some added panache. If you are looking for a fun game to play with your friends, either on Discord or locally, I recommend picking this one up.

• Dancing after each round becomes repetitive, as does the commentators lines.

Note: I have only played this game locally. This review will focus solely on this. I cannot comment on what the game is like when being streamed online.

Papa's Quiz is exactly what I thought it would be from looking at the store page. It has trivia questions and has a silly nonsensical tone underlining it. The question is, is it a good trivia game? I think so. It does not have an obvious focus on certain countries (especially the US) like most trivia games seem to. There are many US-based categories of course, but there is a decent variety. Ranging from Disney to "things that make you say ew" to dictators and animals. Another big positive is that all topics are modern. There is even a TikTok category (take that as you want), New Zealand category AND Australian TV category. Now the last two may be showing my own bias from living down in this part of the world, but their inclusion is inherently rare. Regardless, up-to-date topics can be difficult to find in smaller projects and I hope to see the developers' continuing to update the game as time goes on.

Up to eight players can join, with the host using their keyboard and other players using their mobile. It is very easy for players to connect, only having to go to a website and type in a code. I did not experience any issues with this, and it was very stable throughout the sessions.

Players must "battle" each other to choose one of the four randomised categories. This is done by spamming the directional arrow keys on your phone/keyboard until the cursor is pushed to a selection. The rounds themselves do not have much variety, but are fun, nonetheless. Examples include guessing the slowly appearing picture, choose the correct image answer as the different images are displayed individually and of course, text-based questions. After each short round, the victor will be asked to choose a dance mode. This is a fun addition, but can become repetitive when playing multiple rounds. Although there is an option to skip dance, it is not automatic and feels like wasted time.

The game also uses text to speech voice overs which is of course, weird. But this is the point. The game is weird, but it is the type of weird that is fun with friends.

If you are looking for your next trivia game with friends, and do not wish to take things too seriously, I recommend trying Papa's Quiz. Its varied categories and unconventional presentation are sure to provide an entertaining evening of trivia fun.

played this last night for about 5 hours with my in laws on zoom. Worked perfectly and questions were up to date topics. highly recommend for a fun quiz night with the family

I think this is a good alternative for the Jackbox games but it is not as polished as some of the Jackbox trivia games. I like that there is a variety of categories to choose from and and I like the character customization. However, one trivia game can go on for a bit long in my opinion. A game is usually about 20 minutes with 5 rounds. I think maybe the game developers could look into letting the players customize the amount of rounds per game, if people want to play a short trivia game. Also to make the game easier for streaming, maybe the questions could appear on the devices that everyone is playing on to eliminate lag. Overall, it's a decent game but needs a bit of improvement to be great. If you're a trivia buff, I say get it and if you're unsure you'll like it then wait for a discount.

Decent game in a genre that has surprisingly few good games.

Few suggestions to make it even better,
1. Have an option get rid of the dancing between rounds, we never used it and it just slowed down the game.
2. Have the answers on the device the players on using as well as the main screen to get around some latency issues.
3. Since the game is using Text to Speech options for the voicing, some options to change to different voices would be nice.
4. Adding in a few different topic selector 'games', moving the cursor around is fine but it would be good to have some variation.

Great quiz game with a twist. Definitely one of the best trivia games on Steam, and for a low price, too.

It may look weird but don't be put off by that. There is an option for a Quick Game which focuses only on the trivia without the fluff around it if somebody doesn't like it.

With over 3 thousand questions repetition is also non-existent for quite a while.

Very fun game to play with friends and family, you will laugh and definitely start competing against each other.
Good variation of questions, i like the "steal points" round.

I was trying to play one of the Jackbox Party Packs with some friends on New Year's Eve, but the huge influx of people playing for the holiday were causing some server issues and we kept getting disconnected. We switched to Papa's Quiz and all started laughing harder than we had all night as soon as our custom characters got up and started dancing. Papa's Quiz really stands out compared to other similar trivia party games for its unique features including character creation, amusing text-to-speech voices, and of course the dancing after every round. All of the dances are fantastic and everyone would get excited when a new dance got picked. There are a few different gamemode types that change each round, but they're in the same order every match which can get a little repetitive. I'm not entirely sure how many questions and categories the game has, but I haven't noticed any repeats so far.

The only part of the game I DISLIKE is how mean the host guy is to Montgomery the robot. He's just doing his job man

This game is a lot of fun. It works exactly like a Jackbox game. They even let you do Gangnam Style! Hope they keep it updated.

This is a great little quiz. I played it with members of our community centre who all sat around the screen and everyone loved it. It's fun that you can create your own characters, and have a dance between rounds. I liked the mixture of questions and pictures, and the final round is fun. You log in using your mobile phone or tablet, then enter an online code. Controls are simple and easy to use too.
The only thing I would like added are various options, such as length of quiz or accessibility features - for example an option to remove the 'faster = more points' to make things fair for people with learning disabilities and processing issues.
Overall, fab quiz game, we really enjoyed it. It's absolutely worth £6 to play with friends.
