Space Station 14 Playtest

My first day on SS14.
Yesterday was my first time playing SS14 and I love it! I'm so glad the community is welcoming and teaching of new players. I played as a medical intern.

Had a nice doctor teach me how to treat certain things, what medicines to use, how to not overdose, etc:

I have two funny stories from my first day:

1: I was trying to put medicine in a syringe, when I accidentally clicked with the jug in my hand, and started drinking the medicine. If that wasn't bad enough, after quickly pushing Q and dropping it, I did it AGAIN. I overdosed on two medicines, started hallucinating, throwing up everywhere, and went into crit.

2. The next shift, after the lead doctor left me and told me to watch Medbay, a radiation patient came in. I'm treating him as usual, when suddenly the locker full of every jug of medicine SPILLS ALL OVER. All of the meds somehow spilled, emptied onto the floor and filled the entire medbay. Suddenly like 10 people walked into medbay, I was so scared. I was just a beginner intern and was the only one to witness the entire cabinet spill. It was so embarrassing because everyone was accusing me at first, I felt so bad for the doctor who spent the whole game making the medicine. Supposedly it was caused by a Revenant knocking over the locker.

Loving this game so far :)

Fellow beginner here, I'm sure you and I both will eventually be able to play as our desired jobs.
Being a research assistant keeps me satisfied in the meantime.
Got to learn how to fabricate a medibot and create Man Machine Interfaces, though I needed assistance with actually putting it inside the cyborg frame.

Run away, you will either be a slave to abuse from this community or be banned.

the only thing keeping me playing this game is the sheer randomness of every. single. round.

Nice to hear you had a good first time, I tried the same just earlier today and it was probably the worst time I've ever had playing a video game - the game itself isnt bad, really, just. Getting into it is like trying to walk through a brick wall, it just isnt happening. Read through 30 minutes worth of rules and guidebook stuff - 90% of which I didnt understand at all because of the confusing terminology - then got into game, wandered for 20 minutes without interacting with a single person as nothing was happening, got turned into a revolutionary, wandered around some more trying to find a weapon, fumbled with the inventory in some back alley like a fool for 5 minutes and then dropped dead from nothing. That was. Lovely.

I, too, feel like I am too small to even comprehend the larger picture around me. But maybe that's the charm of it? You can still do some things prescribed by your occupation and learn the game in the process?

...also, on my first day I ate my official musician assignment paper ._.

I've played ss13 for 5 years and it makes me grin so big to see newcomers. This game only gets better with time, the more you understand the mechanics around you the more you can do crazy stuff. If you need any sherpa-ing for the space game I can try and help!
