what's even the point of building another one then? What do you gain, just the resource outputs? Is it meant to boost production of a single stream? That seems counter to expected design
Yes, it basically doubles the production speed of buildings which is actually super important if you want to develop your few cities as much as possible. Can't afford to spend 4 turns on a single mineral extractor for the entire game.
But does any tech exist that allows you to do that? Or every city only has one building queue?
