Wow! What a comprehensive and competent review!

OP, thank you very much for posting this here.

I'm definitely getting this as soon as it comes out.

Relax. I'm not. Not everyone online is an a$$hole.

A tougher review than the first one above, which was very positive. Looking forward to playing a good game, especially in this genre. Really good games have been kinda rare for quite a while now - Wukong was the latest great one, imo. Many are just buggy, politics-driven $hit, especially the AAAs.

Maybe future patches will diminish complaints about the more minor complaints that these reviewers had with the game? The devs seem keen to deliver a quality piece of work, especially with the AI.

If game journalists say it's just ok then it must be very good

In this era, any stablished (read it as: it is my business to do reviews) channel/site is unreliable just for the fact it need publishers to finance them so they cant make true reviews

Yeah, that's why they are even harsher on small independent developers. You cant give good scores to everyones os it's better to praise ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ "AAA" games and hit good indie games hard.
Cyber battleship walking monster?
This game is beyond my imagination!

Thanks for the review links! I’ll definitely buy this game!

I watched Splat's video yesterday evening which was a pleasant surprise. He's not a 4X gamer and he certainly wasn't playing very well (IMO) but I like his style and will watch any review he makes of a game I like.

I don't really need anyone to review the game for me though as I played most of the demos and enjoyed what I played very much. All I needed to know is that the release version is not negatively different from the earlier demos and it looks just fine to me.

As for the '... but not the end of Civ' in the title of that review, I was never expecting it to. I never expected Gladius to end civ either. The 4X tag applies to a very wide range of games nowadays and most are not Civ-like, even if they have 1UPT and hexes. Perhaps there are a lot of gamers for whom Civ is the only 4X game they know but this whole evaluating games based on their ability to kill the Civ franchise is getting ridiculous. I accept that games like Humankind and Ara are getting in the ring with the champ but Zephon? Of course it isn't.

Reviewers' tendency to frame 4x games as potential 'civ killers" or make those comparisons is really obnoxious. More so in the case of this post-apocalyptic, sci-fi, combat focused, very obviously un-civ-like title.

Imo Zephon is not even a direct competitor to CIVILIZATION.
They are too different.

Very good review, I really like the reviewers calm style, he covers all aspects in a limited time frame, provides a balanced overview and also addresses some questions I had after playing the demo, e.g. from his review it seems the AI diplomacy has improved significantly.

So yes, @Shadow_Actual: thanks for sharing!
