What does "part exchange" do?

On equipment garage when you select one of the equipment that you own (either mower or trimmer) there is an option for "Part Exchange" and then you select a second piece of equipment that you own. Then a popup comes up that says "Purchase: Are you sure you want to Part Exchange (item A) for (item B) for ($X.XX)? This cannot be undone." But it doesn't describe what Part Exchange actually does.

Does it swap out the deck size on one mower and put it on another one?
Does it sell your current equipment and buy another copy of the second one?
Does it swap the "maintenance" damage levels of both mowers?

I have no idea what it does. Has anyone tried it yet? What does this function actually do?


If you're also wondering that, I went ahead and did it so that you don't have to. "Part Exchange" is basically "Trade In". You trade in your old equipment and replace it with an item from the shop. If yours is fancier, your trade is worth more than the new item so you get some money back from the deal. If yours is cheaper, then you pay for the new item but your trade-in value lowers the final cost.
