Game exe phoning to Amazon. What the heck?

Dear Claymore Game Studios,

when I started the game earlier my firewall notified me about an access attempt from "Commandos-Win64-Shipping,exe" in the steam folder (with no digital signature) to ec2-52-1-115-164.compute-1.amazonaws.com via TCP/443.

Could you please clarify what data needs to be hosted on Amazon Web Services and why the connection is neccessary for a steam game?

Are you legitimately surprised a program might talk to a webservice of some sort for a number of reasons that you have previously accepted?
