Commandos is possibly my all time favourite game. I spent years on modding it and did some serious competition modding on mddb for this.

But I am really worried if this game is gonna be another "Shadow Tactics or Desperados" copycat. Those two games were absolute trash. They were the most linear game I ever played and since I played both on hardcore, there was only ONE way to accomplish every level. Commandos on the other hand is more like sand box stealth and you can create your own approach as long as the level allows it. You can go gun blazing or you can do stealth or you can do whatever.

Desperados and Shadow tactics do not allow anything but a forced stealth in the order of "kill A and then B and then C guards in correct" order. There is no creativity in those games.

You do understand that the reason Commandos is back alive it's thanks to the hardwork of mimimi and the shadow tactic feature that make planning so good? At least be more respectful, I know this is internet but hey

it is back because of the remasters not those games. By "Planning" You mean finding the ONLY way devs want you to finish the level without any creativity?

in commandos 2 or 3 was some woman spy but only in one mission. this kinds of games not needed diversity :)

I just want my Commandos to be Commandos. If someone likes Mimimi games then they have their own titles.

I just don't want this genre to become another modern FPS where all games are just same except with different titles. Commandos be Commandos and Shadow Tactics stay as Shadow tactics.

yes. That's why I beat Commandos 2 so many times. Sandbox. But Commandos 2 is a AAA game for 2001. Mimimi games is a indie. To create a game like Commandos 2 you need a lot of money and recourses

Yes!!! PLEASE dont make it to where theres only one solution to every level and basically turn it into a puzzle game. That ruined Desperados 3 for me.

Genre was basically dead for a decade or so and Mimimi single-handedly brought it back to life with 3 excellent games, each feels incredibly familiar yet fresh and comfortable to play. Without Mimimi there wouldn't be any Commandos revival, that's for sure.
There's much to dissect in Mimimi's games. With better understanding how they work it is possible to revive Commandos into not just a good game but into a great one.

Yet this doesn't mean indeed that new Commandos should be a Shadow Tactics clone, because it shouldn't. Commandos (especially 2) was a bit different beast (inventary system, uniforms, vehicles, less focus on story and character traits, more on pure tactics and variety of tools, etc). I'm sure new devs understand all of this.
For me personally Commandos 2 is still the best game in the genre, but it would be a crime to ignore what Mimimi achieved. Best way here is to take best ideas from both worlds and carefully combine them without breaking what already worked.

Fact is Mimimi as relatively small indie studio has revived RTT genre which was indeed dead for many many years. And, after all, their games were inspired by good old Commandos.

Yeah, Shadow Tactics and Desperados III are different from Commandos but they are the closest you get to Commandos or RTT in all these years.

And also thanks to Mimimi we've got some new RTT games like War Mongrels, Partisans 1941, Stargate: Timekeepers and a few more.

Desperados III is one of the best point & click RTT game ever made, be quiet you kid.
