Good idea, bad translation
This whole game is based on the Call of Cthulhu 7e table-top role-playing system (with some tweaks), i have recognised this instantly because i myself play this trpg in the real life lol. The general idea of Yog-Sothoth building a new universe and using player as a helper to get some power from the old universe is amusing, i give it a pass. Also transforming elder deities into an anime girls - never hurts as well (we remember you Nyarko-chan <3 ). The only scenarion availible in the demo felt quite intresting and actually close to what happens in the rl trpg sessions.

But the translation... It's easily the worst translation i've ever seen. Devs has used the artificial voice for the english voiceover and i feel that they did the same with text - simply autotranslated it. The game has potential and i can see it becoming moderately popular among the lovecraftionists, BUT ONLY if the team will hire a professional translator.

The chances of that are quite slim tbh, but lets hope for the better. Because if the devs will use this autotranslated version for the final release - i don't know who will have enough willpower to plow through it. Definitely not me :(

Just gonna interject - the voiceover has nothing to do with translation. It's the same when language is set to Chinese.

Voices being done by synthesis was a deliberate choice, to mimic the popular in Japan (and apparently Asia) style of "replays" of RPG sessions, presented in a form of something looking like a Visual Novel's gameplay video, and the aforementioned synthesised voices.

But yeah, translation is a bust, at least ATM. Devs say they will make a better one, so we might consider this a placeholder... although, ofc, we don't really have any reason to expect anything great, anyway.

They can just use Deep L instead of Google Translate and that will make the whole translation a million times better.

No, it really won't. DeepL gives people the impression of being significantly better because it puts more effort into being presentable in the target language. What you probably aren't noticing is that when Google finds something it can't understand it producers gibberish, but when DeepL finds something it can't understand it just omits that part from the provided translation entirely.
Machine translations have their uses but for a commercial context they are not acceptable, they're too inaccurate and highly inconsistent, and consistency is something that is of significant importance in media translation. You don't want something like game mechanics terms getting changed around based on the context the MTL found them in, for example.

Thank you.
Fist of all, We the whole team are Call of Cthulhu 7e table-top role-playing fun. We tried to contact the Chaosium to get a mandate but they have no feedback to us. So, We did a jod, we created a table-top role playing system, and made it possible to do two things, play game on the table/computer, let it feel like COC 7e but different.
Secondly, We found a commercial translation team to retranslate the game. There should be still some translation issues ,but will not be incomprehensible all the game.
Hope you enjoy our game.
We just released our EA version.
Thank you!

I'm excited for this. When do you expect the new English translation to be released?

If you haven't considered it already, I would recommend making a more public announcement with this news.

I played the demo a few months ago and really enjoyed the gameplay but couldn't understand the translation. If the translation has now been fixed I'm excited to play your game.

to anyone who played the new translation, how is it?
GARRUS Dec 22, 2022 @ 12:20pm
It uh, feels less esoteric than than when I played the demo (don't know how much is due to having played it before), but it's still very apparent that it's not a native translation, and has some odd word choices and phrasing.

To be honest I wasn't completely sure if it was still using the old translation method with touch-ups or it was intended to be the re-translation until I read this thread.

I don't want to be too negative and I appreciate the efforts but I think the devs could benefit from a native-speaking second opinion to objectively assess the quality of the translation.

Well, the translation is not THAT bad (I've seen way worst, looking at you MTL) but yeah, just a little bit of polish could be nice, be it some weird phrases or cleaning up the he/she mess for some character.

I see, I guess waiting longer won't hurt.
