Report a translation problem
Voices being done by synthesis was a deliberate choice, to mimic the popular in Japan (and apparently Asia) style of "replays" of RPG sessions, presented in a form of something looking like a Visual Novel's gameplay video, and the aforementioned synthesised voices.
But yeah, translation is a bust, at least ATM. Devs say they will make a better one, so we might consider this a placeholder... although, ofc, we don't really have any reason to expect anything great, anyway.
Machine translations have their uses but for a commercial context they are not acceptable, they're too inaccurate and highly inconsistent, and consistency is something that is of significant importance in media translation. You don't want something like game mechanics terms getting changed around based on the context the MTL found them in, for example.
Fist of all, We the whole team are Call of Cthulhu 7e table-top role-playing fun. We tried to contact the Chaosium to get a mandate but they have no feedback to us. So, We did a jod, we created a table-top role playing system, and made it possible to do two things, play game on the table/computer, let it feel like COC 7e but different.
Secondly, We found a commercial translation team to retranslate the game. There should be still some translation issues ,but will not be incomprehensible all the game.
Hope you enjoy our game.
We just released our EA version.
Thank you!
I'm excited for this. When do you expect the new English translation to be released?
Now :)
If you haven't considered it already, I would recommend making a more public announcement with this news.
I played the demo a few months ago and really enjoyed the gameplay but couldn't understand the translation. If the translation has now been fixed I'm excited to play your game.
Thank you for your advice
We are going to do it now
To be honest I wasn't completely sure if it was still using the old translation method with touch-ups or it was intended to be the re-translation until I read this thread.
I don't want to be too negative and I appreciate the efforts but I think the devs could benefit from a native-speaking second opinion to objectively assess the quality of the translation.
