Flock of crows

have been seeing them circling some areas. So far, I have been ignoring them, but I just keep wondering does they mean anything in the game, like marking a point of interest, maybe some treasure, a tanuki, an area with lots of visitors or some such. Google returns nothing useful.

So the circling crows, are they just some atmospheric effect or are they actually signalling something?

They circle areas of strong negative energy. So there's probably either a Tori Gate or special interior zone there as part of a sidequest. They'll normally clear after the area is cleansed, but a few spots will always have them; IIRC one is a cemetery within the game.
