Epic Version just won't work on deck
Is forcing a specific Proton version causes the game to just not load. I've tried multiple versions of GE, nothing. The game will only launch if I run it without forcing compatibility, And after clicking new game or continue, will only show a black screen. I can sometimes hear music, But i'm about ready to just give up on this one. Does anyone have any kind of fix, Or is this a situation where only the steam version will work?

I'm trying to get it to run on a Linux PC, but I'm in the same boat. Epic version won't run with any Proton version that I can tell. Can get it to launch, intro logos and main menu but same deal, black screen. I've seen some different posts about it having something to do with the VP9 video codec but I have no idea.
Same boat here. I can get past the main menu and get the notification for bonus items when starting a new game but just a black screen past that. I can hear what sounds like background sounds.

The high seas were good to me here, but it's unbelievable that I can't get my legit copy to work. Glad I'm not alone,I guess.

I did check and the steam version still works fine.

I am guessing that the Epic version is trying to access Epic Online Service/Epic store to check dlc and prorder bonuses. I would guess that proton does not have nor know what it is which is why it is not loading up. You could check with Epic to see if they have a work around. :) You could try installing epic using wine under proton. If you need help with that then check the steam for linux board. There is a thread over there where they got uplay from ubisoft to work and I am guessing your issue is do something similar.
