After updating, it now crashes. Why?
Before the update, there is no problem to clear the game.
After the spider thread update
"UE4 snowfall fatal error"
caused the game to stop starting.
Why?

Verify the games files. On the library page for the game click on the gear icon, then properties, then local files, and the option to verify the games files is there.

Thanks.
But I verified the game file and it crashed with the same error.
By the way, I uninstalled and reinstalled and it crashed,
Crashed even after a fresh install with XBOX game pass.
I could play before the update.

Sounds like dirty D is doing its job. Utter shame people who paid for the game now have a worse version of it. I wish these publishers weren't like this, it sucks for EVERYONE (the publishers included bc now they have to do MORE end user support.)

Denuvo tends to cause these sorts of problems. It was added in the most recent update. Enjoy!
Dante Apr 12, 2023 @ 7:31am
This is what I always say in most steam forums that performance is a very minor concern about Denuvo. In worst case senario, you wont even be able to start/play your game. Just like what happened to a lot of people in FORSPOKEN and SONIC FRONTIERS.

I personally think adding Denuvo now when there was no mention of it on release is an illegal move and Bathesda should be sued for this.

It’s not illegal, it’s a product they own and they can add it if they like. That said adding it a year after release especially when most have already “pirated” it is really stupid. I highly doubt the new stuff warrant it.

First of all, they dont own it. Legit customers do when they pay full price. This is not an online only multiplayer game. Even in online games, devs just patch games, add modes and add content to it the way they like. They still dont add DRMs to it, so I still think it should be illegal.

Anyway lets just say it is legal but Denuvo costs a lot. Is this new DLC really worth that much that it will cover all the Denuvo costs plus give them profit.....I really doubt it.

Umm you should read the Eula you don’t own any of the games you purchase at least not this game. You have the permission to play the game regardless if it’s single player or mp. Also bethesda or MS own the rights to the ip and game and can do whatever they want with it. But as I said not sure if it’s worth it because of the new content since it’s free.

It's probably Denuvo causing problems.

Played through the new School side quests. Didn't have any issues. Could just be an Unreal Engine issue too. Sometimes you need to verify/reinstall when UE4 games are updated. Weird quirk of the engine.

The memory leak issue hasn’t been fixed so that can also be an issue.

I'm having the same issue. It crashes with a UE4 Snowfall Error on startup and is completely unplayable. Tried solutions suggested online, updated drivers, no overclock, verify integrity of game files, etc. This update took the game away from me.

The only thing you buy as per a game's typical EULA these days is a license to play a product that can be revoked whenever, unless getting a GOG copy or otherwise.

Also, the DRM in other games usually comes from an online services backend or even an anti-cheat service, if going by technicality. The use of it is simply normalized in the industry, much like HDCP for protected 4K/2160p media streaming.

Saw that, too. While the frame rate drops are less likely to occur, one can still notice them depending on what assets are streamed into memory by then. Playing with merely SSAO on is also not ideal, when it was passable before now.

This game, much like other modern titles, absolutely craves GPU memory. Minimum 6GB: preferably 8-12 or higher.
