I Hate Ideological Translators.
dude in the game said "どうだろうなあ", literally meaning in a basic way of IDK. BUT THESE IDEALOGICAL JAGALOONS TRANSLATE IT AS "PROPERTY IS THEFT"! WTF! You are literally hijacking another culture for your ideology...

First proper reason I hear against switching the audio to English, too bad most of us doesn't know Japanese so we stuck with English no matter how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ the translation is, yay.

English voices probably say it outright as "property is theft", this is after you get the bow n arrow. I learned Japanese because I started noticing here and there that translators would start putting their ideological jargon in basically everything.

Is that what the subtitles translate it as?

Some changes like this here and there are needed for you young kids to understand that communism is the way. Don't be so upset, it makes you look childish :joker:

Have you seen what it says at that point if English audio is selected too, or if the Japanese subtitles match the Japanese audio better? It's not uncommon for subtitles in movies and games to be transcriptions of the same language track only, instead of every combination of audio language and title language, and that leaves any regional changes lost.

Just a theory as to why this may have happened, it doesn't solve your dislike. Technically it would be something they could solve with a lot more translation work.

Translations for english subs, are typically the scripts for english voice actors. However, for this game I don't know what the english actors said, but if history of the past 5 years+ of translations that ive seen, it probably holds true here as well.

you do understand that this was a joke right? KK isn't actually saying "i think property is theft", it was a sarcastic/joke response. localization teams do this to help convey a characters personality, just translating won't work since a lot of jokes and mannerisms don't translate well(or at all in some cases) into other languages and cultures.

it's not a new occurrence. To translate or Dub in such a way, with THEIR ideological tonation, is intellectually dishonest, if not downright dubious.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGtn41xAgi0 0:14 in this is a great example of ideological hijacking.

Yeah, what can we do. localization teams across all japanese media think theyre so important, they just have to insert their bs. Why i double check fansubs over crunchyroll and funimation sometimes for seinen stuff.

same fking weebs who hate localization demand to have like a dozen footnotes on each translation including full etymology of each character and radical and then overinterpret the literal translations out of context and completely miss the intent anyway. if you want to enjoy the original learn to read the source language. there is no possible translation that won't be 'hijacking' the source in some way or another to be marketable/relevant in the domestic region. if its not something like this itll be the typical kansai-speaker with the southern drawl-- if it bugs you just git gud

how many years can you spend watching anime and ♥♥♥♥ and still not speak the language well enough to enjoy the original. some of you hire fan translators to give you what you think are more literal translations that you cant get from the commercial translators. put that money into language lessons instead

The stupidest thing ive heard today. People eat food all their life, does one have to a chef to complain about some incorrectly served food they ate at a restaurant? pretty sure not.
