Shadowbane launched in USA March April 2003. I had just graduated HS and owned the game and played it 70-80 hours per week at that point and I played on the Death server. that Christmas Rise of Chaos came out, Dec 2003. Then EU launch happened in 2004 along with 2004 Christmas Throne of Oblivion released and a surge of life came back into the game which was short lived.
Not to mention Death server was closed before Throne of Oblivion even launched because population dip. My characters were migrated to Wrath server then Wrath server closed I migrated to Mourning but I had began played on Cataclysm server around that time which had monthly wipe cycle until it was also closed within just a handful of months.
I bounced from Test server a lot due to free runes and fast EXP from 2005 to 2007. Then test completely died in 2007... test looked a lot like shadowbane looks now with changeyou by end of 2007. So I just played Mourning until game closed in 2009. In 2007 the game was very dead but held onto the diehard playerbase and I was there online in 2009 when servers went down for good.
All in all shadowbane took a massive dip in population before RoC even launched. In 2004 it surged back but only because game was opened to EU playerbase and ToO also launched just months after EU launch... but same ole same ole it was dead again by end of 2005 and just kept bleeding players HARD and by 2007 it was a shell of it's former self. Xander and SBG tried their best to save the game but its the concept and design. The community ruins this game because this game is mean't to grief the ♥♥♥♥ outta every. Any game you work 80 hours per week on to build a community and city etc. and all that be destroyed in a matter of days? A product destined for failure.
Shadowbane's to this day is the most toxic video game I have ever played. And I was pretty toxic when I played and grieved the ♥♥♥♥ out of everyone... hell even my own guild. My best friend and I were reason dragonscale stopped openly recruiting and reason thieves were banned from dragonscale. We stole from guildies, we backstabbed them, hell we were errant IDK how many times and just started wrecking guildmates with heal priest alts on macro.
