Shadowbane
Hmm, I remember playing a game with this exact name that crashed and burned like 20 years ago... did someone find a dusty old copy and try and revive this thing?

Still same game, still same toxic players, still same senseless pvp. This will crash in burn soon as well, people will kill R2's endlessly until they quit the game, bane small cities off map until they quit the game... then left listening to crickets wondering where playerbase went. lol

Good thing it's on steam though, huge coverage. At some point they might make it f2p, look at Albion which multiplied its playerbase 10-20x after going f2p on steam.

Can't say shadowbane is going to share the same fate if they don't do anything with server stability and cash shop by then (at the moment cash shop is useless for both players and devs, does nothing but scare away new players - has huge prices but those items aren't worth the price. It's a good thing that the game is not p2w yet a new player will just see that you can buy SOMETHING for 150$ and uninstall right away).

But if they do change the cash shop before making it f2p, that's a whole another story. And no emu will ever be able to compete with something that's free to play on steam and is installed in one click.

Changeyou isn't doing themselves any favors using worst map in shadowbane's history either. They need Aerynth ASAP do away with this garbo mapset currently.

Why not Dalgoth? Aerynth is just good for nostalgic feelings, it has a lot of empty space and since city limits were introduced there are just too many defensive plants. Plus only 5 runegates so even higher map control advantage for the zerg. It's hugely outdated by now.

Dalgoth with more zones, proper runegate system and 2x guards is great though.

crashed and burned? .... well 2 expansions, and 6 years is not a bad run for a dedicated pvp game.

+1

For Aerynth.

I like that it doesn't try to refine down other elements of the game in order to make things speed up which happened with later maps. Shadowbane has a lot of functioning organic parts which don't need tweaking. Conflict doesn't need to be forced, it happens well enough on it's own.

Larger mapsets offer more building options because at the end of the day, where trees go does and should matter. Might seem stupid but some folks put some hard thought into where they drop their seed. Been a city owner twice and am sure that I am not alone on that.

The unique Noob Island is pretty cool. Had some cool mobs and camps which were well spread out.

Aerynth's large map helps to create a larger perspective. As a former RPer, seeing and feeling my being part of a larger world helped with my immersion.

Of all the maps I been on, I like Aerynth the best as it has the most to offer.

It's timeless.

Seems that Crowfall addressed some of the issues with stagnant servers but they seem to have missed all the fun elements of the PvP system in Shadowbane. The combat system in Crowfall seems watered down compared to Shadowbane. The sub-classes, main classes and race combinations are pretty interesting. On my main assassin I use around 45-50 skills for different situations, but in newer MMO's it seems like the amount of available skills to use keeps getting lower and lower. I think this is Richard Bartle influence. I love how flexible the UI is in this game. Plus Shadowbane has many other game elements in it that are pretty amazing and still not included in newer MMO's.

Same Chinese zerg = target rich environment . Problem is Chinese zerg own the server . All non Chinese would have to join together and wipe them off of the server , just like we did in the old days . I hear it is almost impossible to get bane stones now days .

That’s nonsense. Bane stones can’t be produced on Sages anymore but are still very easy to get.
