Another dead one? 🙁
I really don't understand why so many small devs think that convincing potential customers that their game is abandoned is the best thing they can do for their game. 🤔 Big publishers spend millions of dollars on promotion, but small devs find it hard to spend 20 minutes once per 3-4 months writing a short "I'm still working on it, this month I've been working on..." post and add one ingame screenshot. It's not just about engagement. Imagine a random factory/automation/belt games fan who watched Orbital potato's video on YT, found your game interesting and thank to the links Orbital potato kindly provides under his vids, he landed on your game's Steam page. But he finds no news there, no release date, the last forum activity is almost a year old, linking to an equally old devs post. Nothing since. So he closes it up and walks away with the feeling that this game is probably another one of those dead, abandoned ones he'll never play and puts it out of his mind. And yet all it takes was 3-4 posts from the devs in a year for him to walk away with the feeling that this game is still being worked on and he should check back soon and keep his wallet ready...

You're entitled to that opinion, of course.

However, with a big announcement post talking about a publishing deal, it's a bit of a stretch to assume the game abandoned. If that was the case, there would also be a post disclosing the abandonment.

Posting stuff on Steam in the past lead to zero engagement, so I stopped. I felt like I was talking to myself. I also spoke about this in the forum post titled "Status of the game, May 2024". I encourage you to read it.

I am, however, posting regular updates on Discord, because I know people on Discord care. They did join a Discord for an unreleased game, after all. Now, I know Discord isn't for everyone. But if you truly are interested, I invite you to join. It's a very silent Discord, so it won't bother you much. But you'll get to see where the game's at, what I'm doing etc.

By the way, speaking of the Orbital Potato video, I did post a comment on that video (on the same day it came out) explaining that the game is very much still in development, but that comment was deleted for some reason.
Congratulations on getting a publisher! That's awesome! 😄
Love Orbital Potato. And another video of your game today!
