Final thoughts after beating the game.
So i just completed the game it took me about 16 hours though most of that was leaving a run on over night. Its a very fun game. I love the music and graphics and the general charm of the game so top marks on that. I do feel however that there are quite alot of upgrades and buildings in the game that seem to me to go against the point of the game which is to make a huge pile so you can compress and tier up and eventually beat the game.

The game has two competing mechanics that need to be balanced the creation of shards and shard piles and the collecting of those shards. If you collect too many shards compared to the amount you create you will never tier up and beat the game. If you collect to few shards you will take much longer to get the upgrades you need and the game will take longer plus you won't be able to unlock the talent points you need to prestige.

There are also upgrades that increase the range the shards you create are flung out to and these are the problematic upgrades that i feel hurt the game. In order to get the shard pile high enough you need to have most of your shards hitting the same range and the smaller that range the better. This makes things like the vulnerable upgrade on the missiles deceptively bad when it seems very good. Increasing the range the shards go makes it harder to get the final pile height you need even though the extra damage it provides seems like it would be a great upgrade.

My victory run, and most of my runs, avoided mountaineers, rammers, psychic guys, drones at the end, directors and hulks and having a limited amount of runners because you don't actually want the shard collection or shard spreading or increased distance any of those guys provide. I also never used a bunch of prestige options because they did similar things that seemed to me to be anti what the game wants you to do and thats really sad as they obviously had alot of work put into them. Now I could be wrong and doing things wrong or not understanding things but these are the impressions i get after having beat the game and I hope to see updates that add more content and fix things as the game is awesome.

TLDR: SUPER FUN GAME LOTS OF CHARM LOTS OF BAD UPGRADES

You need to increase your gathering rate to unlock prestige points, so the idea is that all runs besides the one where you win effectively end by maximizing rate. of course, you can't maximize rate without maximizing DPS.

Disagree about the psychics, as you get closer to endgame the maximum rate involves them + drones. not needed but not bad for the 2 zyb

But yes anything that is a "range changer" or "time increaser" is a dud in this game. directors bonus to multiplier, hulks pushing are not worth more uptime on acid which becomes most of your damage.

theoretically you need slammers for max dps as archers using zybe arrows + riflegnorp with ice make rammers apply fire to keep all three of those up as much as possible, but meditation + warm up is pointless as they're just there to debuff fire.

the biggest trap is mountain king as you can't call him off and he gleefully destroys your peak.

I should have made the fact that you need rate for prestige more prominent in the review for sure. That said even when you are trying to get prestige points you still need to make sure to limit how much rate you get as you still need to tier up to get the best amount of shards so you have to constantly hold back on picking up rate upgrades so you don't screw over your peaks.

Edit: As for the psychics the thing that really got me and i think a good poster child for my whole argument was that my main build was the jet pack guys and the time jump so I thought getting 3 psychics for the upgrade to make you time jump 2 extra times would be great but by getting those 3 psychics I actually prevented myself from being able to beat the game as they took to many shards and took them from my peaks. I did a couple runs wondering why it was so much harder to tier up until i figured out those are a trap along with the vulnerable upgrade from the rockets.

Hey! Thank you so much for the feedback! In terms of modifiers (talents, upgrades, inspirations) that feel bad, I definitely do not want them to feel bad. They fall in two categories:
1. Not strong enough, no matter the context
2. Strong in specific context

As I update the game, I want to eliminate all modifiers belonging to category 1, and I want to widen the context of all the 2s.

It is really important to me that you are able to pull off cool things with all the talents, so that is definitely a huge priority for me.

my last achievement is coaxing, so my final thoughts are: WHAT IS COAXING??!?? i dont see any talent that says coax; no ones talking about it, there's not guides, im losing my mind. I've beat the game thrice now and still dont know what coaxing is ;~;

I figured it out myself and made a guide because I knew it's going to be a bit obscure for others as well. Just click the bulb on the research centre when it glows and only when it fully glows. If you miss the timing your 'combo' breaks. Just need to do that 20 times. It mimics the star you are trying to lure in.

I disagree, I consider basically everything you think is worth avoiding absolutely essential. I'm not saying either of us played better or more correctly but just because you played a certain way doesn't mean others aren't viable. I found myself using most of what the game had to offer when I balanced it together correctly.

I agree that there are likely may other ways to beat the game and just because i found them bad doesn't mean they can't be good. These were just my thought having played through. Specifically anything that adds distance to your shards or pushes them out of the main peaks though seem just really bad to me. As from what i got you want all your shards to travel the same distance ideally and the dps I used were very low range.

Apparently you don't even have to have a Zybe on the map for it to work.

Quick observation on usefulness of Hulks.

I found for the last tier (in my first run through) if you have the main peak right next to the rock, once the reclaim becomes too much, send in hulks. They will smash the peak to the right. Once it is moved over, stop making hulks. You will now have two peaks which seems to heavily affect reclamation once the new peak starts... peaking.

Not sure exactly why this works but it broke past the deadlock for me. Cheers and happy gnorping.

I managed to win with 13 talent points (or I"m about to once i unlock the last building in a few more mil) but damn some parts of this game were incredibly frustrating because none of the mechancis are explained.

Some of them are semi obvious to see but others I had to google to figure out what was going on and why.

*edit* ok that just lets me win if i get bar full again *cry*
