I came to see the discussions to give my little feedback, and I saw this post which was already going in my direction so, here are the little things that I would like to point out.
- I don't know if this will be the case in the full game, but it would be interesting to allow the player total customization of their character. I mean, select colors separately for his body. Hair, skin, nose.
Customization seems to be an important part of the game, so it would be a shame to limit it.
As a game programmer (in training), I suspect that this could complicate the character editor interface a little.
The simplest way I can think of would be to keep the current presets, and give access to another advanced settings window.
- If it's a chill game to play with friends, and share your findings, maybe consider a photo mode with some options ?
This game is so good that I can't find anything to add.
It's the kind of game that I would like to create myself, it has a real soul, and that's fundamentally important. Continue to take good care of it.
I also play on KB/M and found the mouse sensitivity dizzying. And some very strange and sudden movements would happen at quitting out of a conversation.
Had trouble getting much help out of the map too - and also very weird that the 'cursor shape' on the map (tiny circle) was NOT placed where my mouse cursor was placed, but about 5 cm off. It would move in synch with my mouse movements - i.e. would move up when I moved mouse up, left when I moved mouse left etc, but all the time same distance away from where my mouse actually was. Very weird. And I couldn't get much use out of the map as it didn't really show where on the map I was or what direction I was facing. Maybe smth the map isn't intended for, maybe only to show roughly where we are - if lots of different areas in the full game?
Agree with @grandma on small text too. On a standard PC/laptop the instructions, icons etc are really tiny. And I have pretty normal sight ;-)
Also - tutorial needs to explain things better. I was stuck just flying around for the longest time looking for that thieving creauture - I was SURE I knew it was in the grass on that mound where Bessie was , but although I went there and looked around it was a long time later that the 'uncle' said that stuff about getting Bessie to eat the grass. Which felt a bit unfair.
And the explanation for how to get a creature to follow is VERY unclear - I still don't get what is meant by needing to have the 'sound waves lined up' so as not to spook them.
I felt I've tried lots of different things, but they all just fly away. I got tired of this after a looong while and did a save-and-quit to see if I could find some more advice on that somewhere, but didn't really. And going back in now, I see that it wasn't saved after all. And I don't feel like going through it all again.
So happy to leave it at that for the time being.
It looks reallly lovely, and I (mostly) enjoyed playing it, and will put this on my wishlist.
But hope that you will follow up on these isssues in further development.
I'll be following the game with interest.
