There is a door that is chained shut at the beach.

This door does not unlock for me - I assumed that you could open it from the island once cleared, but no, it does not unlock for me. Is there a special trick to this, a quest that I have not found, or what's the story here?
Just want to know before I uninstall the game, since I am done with the boss fight at the end and have nothing left that I want to do.

if you have done the last fight in the city, then you are indeed done with unlocking.
i suppose the story is destruction. some things remain destroyed. maybe the devs had in mind to put more of restoration into the game or maybe they intended areas to remain destroyed, we might never know.

I seem to recall being able to get onto the bridge (only a little way) in an earlier version, then the wall appeared... obv to force a different route but it would be nice to be able to unlock it once the boss fight is complete. :-)
