Llamas not collecting?

So I searched the discussions boards and found explanations on how they are supposed to work, but I must be missing something.

Currently, I have Old Wood selected as the resource to gather. There is 1 in the main slot and 16 in the "shed/box," but there are no small boxes near the building to allow me to collect them. The only thing near the building is what looks like an air conditioning unit attached to it. No boxes, and I've never interacted with or vacuumed up boxes here before, so I'm assuming if there is something wrong with the collecting, it's been this way since the start of the game.

& in general don't rely too much on the lamas, they are pretty lame with collecting

They do collect, and I for sure have had days where they have collected nothing for the day.
Try renewing the order, it always fixes it when I haven't seen anything in a while.

The llamas are only ok for the very beginning, but once you have space and even just a couple crops and recipes... you're better off buying anything they can pickup.
Grow crops, Make food, turn them into Jars, buy the raw materials the llamas pickup from NPCs instead.
Pricey? Sure. Time consuming? You bet. So have been any farming/crafting game!
