Message in a bottle consequences ?

Having completely finished the game, or so I thought, I found a message in a bottle. I've seen the grandfather say two things because of it, but it seems to refer to another building being built, and I can't find one. Does it have any consequences apart from a couple of lines of dialogue ?

Was that bottle supposed to be found at the end of the game? I found it when I explored the last part of the village?

I found the bottle early in the game, but never knew what to do with it. I finished the game with it still in my inventory, along with a ton of other stuff I never used.

You give it to the first human NPC you meet in the game, the one with a shop near your farm. All it seems to do is lead to a couple of dialogue lines. However, one of the lines suggests that it will let you rebuild one of the houses in the village. I wondered whether anyone had ever seen this, or anything like it, happen.

I think I had already rebuilt that house at the time i found the bottle. So you don't need the bottle to be able to do it. It just seems like a weird, forgotten item the devs didn't do anything with.

I found it very early in the game and the only one that would accept it was Mark. He just replied with a bit about a postman that "had one job" and about his children having left the planet so he'd better leave with them soon. Nothing happened after that.

My experience was similar to JVC's early in the game. Near the end of the game I was running thru just checking before going to Sunken City and right before the door to Harold in the Village I found Rudy standing in front of a completely finished house. When I talked to him no mention was made of the new house.

For me Rudy wouldn't take the bottle but another NPC did. I'm not finished yet with that line but just try giving it to other NPCs near the farm.
