the protagonist of the games story is Ellen, a girl looking for her grandfather.
So no, no character customization. This is a story driven game.

hmm, I think this alone will deter me from purchase. Though the game looks good, character is important to me in a game. Its a way to connect with the game. Not saying using a female character wont, but if I have to spend money, Im going to look for something I think I will connect with.

The game isn't a dating sim. If they were to add a male character and simply change the pronouns in the dialogue, it'd play exactly the same. Which is both a reason it could be done and why it doesn't really matter if it isn't done.

No it is not just pronouns. Entire conversations would need to be changed. The protagonist talks completely differently to male NPCs than female NPCs. If you just changed the pronouns, conversations would feel weird and out of place in my opinion.

All of the current dialogue is supposed to be placeholder anyway and there aren't any dialogue paths that raise friendship, so it's not a major issue.

Gender-philes tend to move on to other Steam venues, anyway.

For english that may be true… but other languages require wayyyyy more changes if you change the gender.. basically in these languages that would almost double the translation work. Its never „just“ adding a dynamic system. It takes alot of effort to implement it properly and even more if its a story driven game. There are a lot of things you potentially need to consider and since there basically is no story implemented yet, maybe the way she is now is relevant to the story? We dont know yet. Could also be that she isnt a girl? ;D but thats another topic, I guess :)

She definitely is a girl. The conversations in Frozen Peaks clearly show that.

Thanks for the Question, i was also looking up for this. Not a general Problem per se, but it's also a hard pass on my side. But i wish everyone else much fun with the Game, i'm pretty sure it's a great game.

So you can't either play maneater, because you're not a shark, same with donkey kong or kirby I suppose... too bad theases are good games. it's a fake issue.

I have OCD. I am like the OP. It is something I am trying to get over. It is difficult. Forums shouldn't be rude to people that prefer playing male. It is just more immersive. It is so bad for me that I struggle playing a game without character customisation. I dislike this about myself. It shouldn't matter, but some part of my brain is doing this. It isn't sexism. Gaming is an escape for me. I really want to full immerse myself into the world. Mae the character my own. Like it is my journey.

I find as closed minded as someone like me sounds, it doesn't sound better that people are against people like me thought process. That is closed minded, too. I think sandboxes people expect to have character creation. That said, I respect the devs decision. Asking shouldn't trigger people. Store page doesn't always tell everything in my experience.

I would have bought it if it had basic customization options. Games these days should give gender and race choice.

First of all: It's not like he/she said it's an issue, simply that it effects his purchase-decision. IMHO the "fake issue" is rather to be offended over this Topic / Purchase Decision.

Secondly: Don't pull a straw man here please. People look for different type of Games and Genres for different things. I for one have no Problem of pre-defined Characters in Action-Adventures and stuff, but i prefer in RPG's to be able to creater my Characters and for Life/Farming Sims it's pretty important to me as well to have Char-Creation. And that goes both ways. "Epic Chef" was also a bit bothering for me that you only had this predefined male character.

It's like that people have different tastes and looking for different thinks, like also Dev have different visision and deliver different things. On both sides nothing wrong with it. But don't make such a drama out of it only because people ask for information to make their purchase decision. (Same way people shouldn't drama about a Game offers pre-defined Characters and attack the devs for it.)

This game is not a farm/lifesim game, tho. Its a story driven exploration adventure that happens to have farming elements. Could they have made a Customizable character? Sure. Its not like the game has such a deep story that the chatacter matters too much. But i definitely understand why they didnt. Its a TON of work to make sure the correct pronoun is used throughout the game. Its an incredible amount of work for a tiny little detail that a large portion of players wouldnt even care about.
