Stuck on Puzzle 22 - Hints broken?
Hi everyone, I'm a bit stuck in Puzzle 22. Hint #1 says "15 cage in box 3 must be 6/9 given the 8 in the box. This means the 15 cage in r1c3c4 must be 7/8. Where does 8 go in r1? It must be r1c1c3. Now where does 9 go in r1? It can only go in r1c9."

I got the first bit about the 15 cages on my own. However, the next part doesn't make sense. Just just determined that 8s are in r1c4c4 due to the cage. Plus, the actual placement of 8 is r1c4 (I tested with errors marked). I'm not sure what this is supposed to say nor am I sure how to make meaningful progress beyond this point.

The problem with this hint is that the question should have been "where does 9 go in c1?"
If you fill in all the possibilities in column 1 you find 8 must be confined to the 22 cage and the 22 cage must contain 5/8/9. Now 9 cannot be in r1c5 because the 24 cage in box 2 must be 7/8/9. So the only remaining possible locations in row 1 are c2 and c9.

How can we eliminate 9 from r1c2? If you understand Hint#2, then you will see that the 15 cage in r5 must be 6/9, eliminating 9 from all of column 4. Then 9 MUST be in the NW 45 cage and in Box 1, so the 9 in c2 is eliminated.

Hopefully the hints can be corrected in an update soon.

I mostly understand this, but I'm not sure why the 15 cage in r5 cannot be 7/8? It looks like 7 could go in r5c3 and 8 could go in r5c4

consider the 15 cage starting on box 1. if the 8 is in R1C3, then the 15 cage starting in row 5 must be a 69. Otherwise the 8 must be in R1C4, but then the only locations available in the NW 45 cage for an 8 are in C3, so the 15 cage in row 5 is again forced to be 6/9.

The question remains whether the 15 cage in row 1 is 7/8 or 8/7 and cannot be answered easily. the key is to determine wherre the 9 resides in C1 and R1.
The 24 cage in C5 must be 789, and the 9 must be in either R2C5 or R3C5. Thus 9 cannot aappear in c6 portion of the NE 45 cage. Therefore the 9 candidates in the NE45 cage are in box 6, and eliminate chance of any other 9s in box 6, as well as in row 4 of box4. Finally the 9 in C1 must be in the 22 cage at C1R6, leaving the 5/8 in some order in that cage, and eliminating any other cells in box 8 from having 5 or 8.

Now notice NW45 has only 2 locations for an 8, and they point at the center cell of the 24 cage in box 2. This places the 8 in R4C5 and R5C1. Look at the 9s in the NW45 cage and you will see that they preclude 9 from being in R1C2, so 9 must be in R1C9.

Yes a LOT of hint steps are missing in the current version of the app.
Best of luck to you. if you can, please reciprocate with help on some of the other puzzles that I have raised comments on,thanks
