Those of us with 200+ hours in S2 and similar in S1 would say the active reload is an integral, unique (actually, DarkSwarm, a game in a primordial alpha-test, adopts a similar optional quick-reload mechanic) aspect of the games. If you give the game like half an hour, quick-reloading just becomes second nature, and you might start forgetting it's not there in other top down/isometric shooters. :)
But it's like in 2015 reasoning with people who didn't like Helldivers' "not-always on aiming crosshair" that required a "drag'n'aim" on kb/mouse. People want what they want, we get it. :)
