Early combat and save game unclarity

I restarted the game because I lost my first fight. Right from start it feels like "whoever shoots first and consistently aims for the enemy canon, wins". Ofcourse with upgrading your ship that somehow changes a little but this general rule kept me going for my playtime.

Also leaving the game and coming back a day later reset like 10-20 minutes of progress, lost my new ship and a bounty. I wasn't in the middle of a fight when I left so I'm just very unclear about when and where you save the game cuz I didn't see anything in the menu and I feel like I didn't see any hints in dialogs and introductions.

Thanks for the feedback, and sorry for the unclarity! I will look into ways to make it clearer - and perhaps find improved savings options.

Combat can be a little tricky in the beginning but when you get the hang of it I believe it offers many different ways to achieve victory with the many upgrades and ships - just don't go for the most difficult first and get a better boat fast.

Yea, ship combat is just...really nonintuitive. Click person, assign canon. They go to cannon. they load. but they dont fire. we click again then click target?? Like....at soime point there needs to be SOME kindof automation here...

i have tried to kill that monkey ship SEVEN TIMES and I come nowhere close. For a very beginner quest, that needs to be much more instructive and easier... They recover way too fast.

Use the cannons that deal crew damage but not ship damage (switching option in the beginning) called Swivelo Cannon and also use the healing option called Small Healing Room, not the pump. Go get the free upgraded pirate ship right away (it has 14 health). Make sure you have crew 3. That should be all you need to spank the monkey.
