STAR FLEET II - Krellan Commander Version 2.0

STAR FLEET II - Krellan Commander Version 2.0

I have been dreaming of this game for decades
I recall this game when I was a young man. I created an RPG around it where the plays took the role of Krellan commanders in a fleet, as they explored and exploited the galaxy.

They had control of special agents in the diplomatic corps that acted as espionate agents, and a Ranger Corps that would land on planets and set up insurrections and get the lay of the land.

It was a fun campaign.

I always hoped that someone would develop this into a modern iteration of a game. There are so many where you play basically a lone pilot in a ship, or they are FTL clones where you have a few crew walking around. The promise of this game was being a commander with bridge officers and marine commanders under you, away teams, landing zones, fighter pilots, colliers and cargo ships to help you carry away the treasure of ancient planets for the greater glory of the Krellan Imperium.

I don't think I can go back to this clunky UI, but I would love to see an updated version.

There will be a Windows Deluxe version with modern interface, but seems you will have to wait a few more years for that.

There was at one time a project to just that. Oddly enough Star Fleet Deluxe was its name. Trevor Sorensen and Mark Baldwin were developing it off and on for more than a decade. As I remember Mark Baldwin died and the source code was lost.

Not quite right. One of my partners in Supernova Creations, the company that succeeded Interstel Corporation and developed Star Legions, was Brett Keeton. He, another programmer, and I developed an enhanced Windows version of Star Fleet I called Star Fleet Deluxe. Mark Baldwin had nothing to do with it. It was Brett Keeton who died in 2002 just before we were ready to release it. Mark Baldwin is alive and well in Colorado.

Is there any chance we could see Star Legions updated and re-released? I actually liked that game much, much better than the mainline SF series. The invasion gameplay has never been replicated in 30+ years, anywhere

Seems like I bought a newer version of Starfleet I on my phone. Never been bored enough to try it. The controls are pretty hard.

Dude just wanted to say, this game is awesome. I have absolutely no history with it, and it was released 7 years before I was even born. I just learned about it through a PC gamer article like 2 days ago, and after completing a handful of the earlier tutorials (which are really excellent btw) and now 2 missions.... I might be in love lol.

I only wish I had stumbled across it sooner.

Thank you guys for updating this and bringing it to Steam.

Ohhh, could you please link where you found it, please?

And so glad you HAVE found it, it's such a delightful gem of a game.

We are getting to release Star Fleet Deluxe (SFD), not to be confused with Star Fleet II Deluxe, which is under development. We plan to release Star Legions later this year, but it will be the same one that was initially released (with bug fixes). An enhanced Star Legions may be incorporated in SF II Deluxe, or there may be a Star Legions II.

Very excited for that! Will the deluxe version have mouse controls by any chance?
I'll learn how to play with clunky controls if it means chucking prisoners into stars, but I would prefer if it was easier than that obviously.
Also, obviously I won't be able to chuck prisoners into stars when playing as the good guys, so that'll have to wait until SF2D unfortunately. :(

Hey Trevor, any word on the Star Legions release? I just fired it up in DOSBox and it made me remember this thread. I've still got my sealed boxed copy front and center on my bookshelf and I'd love for it to get a new audience from a new generation.

I'd be up for doing some content; tutorials/longplays ahead of or after a steam release to get folks into it, if it helps
