i want to play this game as an ironman permadeath game. and the only save i see is a save & quit button. Patrisians 1941 kinda showed me that save scumming doesn't work in a game like this. can i play permadeath, is that possible?
The game doesn't have an iron mode as a specific option, but you can simply choose not to use the save/load features. However, I can assure you that most players who try the game actually appreciate the save/load functionality, as the game on the Commander difficulty is not easy. And the gameplay is pretty long; on average, it's 40 hours.
You can also make the game even harder by making the enemies more aggressive - you can adjust the ranges for Information Sharing, Proximity Awareness, and Loud Noise perception via the Mission Modifiers in the Options Menu.
The issue is the player getting better over time and overcoming unknown or unforseen mechanics. Outside of save & quit, I don't use the save/load feature in games anymore as it takes away from my enjoyment of games. I spent 30 hours modding Witcher 3 to make the combat more challenging and fun, but eventually gave up. I'm likely biased due to my experience, but still love games. Found a way to play and enjoy games again not even a year ago after watching this video below. So now I play all games on lowest difficulty ironman.
In this game it seems that losing your people is part of the experience. Like take a game such as This War of Mine. What if you reloaded whenever someone left because you pushed them too far cause you never imagined they'd leave. It'd take away from the experience. I wouldn't remember that happening if I reloaded, but since it did happen, I remember that game even more. There's more to it obviously. PC Players today do have an addiction towards perfection, but also to beating the game as the dev intended, the question is the way the game is designed one that the dev originally wanted or one created to satisfy the people's expectations.
