So looking into this game
I'm a huge fan of rts games though I usually play the base building kind I have played a few less like that and in wondering how hard is this game? Like is it ridiculous to try and manage the resources? Like I watched a video and the guy never had enough food even when he kept everyone on half rations through chapter 3 so I'm a bit worried the resource management may be too much. Second is mostly a question of does this game run on the steam deck? I'm pretty sure my potato laptop won't run it so if I play I'd need to play on my deck and not sure how well it runs there. Thanks and the game and story look really cool so even if it ends up not being for me I'm totally rooting for the guys who made this and I'll be watching at least a few different let's plays.

there's very granular difficulty settings, so if any particular part is too difficult (or not difficult enough) you can change that

The difficulty settings in this game are quite unique, just about every aspect of the game can be toned down or toned up depending on your preference and play style.

Functionally the train acts as a moving base. I you have played Frost Punk before the over-map will feel familiar to you.
You store resources in your train, build production, housing and medical facilities and you can upgrade them all to one degree or another. Your soldiers each have a biography, their traits are sometimes random but their characters are unique. You dispatch squads from the train to find resources and take part in missions but if they die, they die.
The battles are real time but with an option to pause at any time. It reminds me a bit of Commandos from way back when.

The game is tough and has a decently steep learning curve.
In my first game my Legion were starving through chapter 3 as well and the train running on fumes.
The next game my people started on half rations from Moscow, I never sold food or fuel and by chapter 3, they were on full rations, full time, thanks to the Kitchen car and the Soup recipe that turns your herbs into more food.
Now on Day 28, I feel no need to stop for lakes or forage anymore.

If you are a fan of rts games and base building, I recommend it.
Go in as blind as you can for your own sake. This game is good enough for it.
Aah good to know all this. I guess I can make the game a bit easier in parts then at least to start to help me learn. I do love frostpunk so knowing it's got a few similarities is awesome. That said does it run on the steam deck?
