On the tactical level, the missions vary in difficulty. I viewed many as more like puzzles to unravel than actual RTS combat because I did most of them entirely through stealth, so it was more like a game of observation and pick-up-sticks to just figure out the right order and way to kill your way through. Had I played more aggressively it might have made the resources crunches (in terms of ammo, grenades, medkits, etc) more pronounced and led to a lot more injuries among my troops which could have put more pressure on me overall at the strategic level.
This.
There is a lot to be gained by using stealth and/or gun emplacements. Basically, you'll want to use your own resources as little as possible. Shooting may be fun, but resources are scarce and a trigger happy approach will mean trouble.
If you want to shoot, the scout insta kill perk is obviously cost efficient.
@ OP: On 'normal', the game is fairly easy. It will tell you that you are low on resources all the time, even when you have enough to go the same distance twice.
