How do I get heaven and earth items

I am already several years into the game, I have one of each of the 6qi- some of which I have multiples. I have defeated a few monsters that spawn in the areas like the six tails and evergreen. I still do not have a single heaven and earth thing for first foundation, what am I doing wrong?

Do I just need to grind more in the elemental areas?

There are several map locations called Land of the Spirits, they contain the upgrade items. The orange ones

Another tip for you, when trying to breakthrough without your item click on the info button, and put your mouse over the items, theirs description talks where you can find then.

If you go to the store, you can find 'psychic' charms. These reveal special areas in a 40 sq grid around you.

Buy a few for your current region (shouldnt need a lot) and use them around the map in your area. They will highlight stuff like Blazing Fields, Arctic Field where bosses spawn. You beat these bosses for the upgrade material/Qi.

Also, if you check the breakthrough information, it tells you or directs you to the area where the item you want is.
