How to refine Ore or Herbs?
There are these I guess, "trash" drops that you sometimes get from harvesting ore or herbs on the map.

And it'll say "A forging material/alchemy material of the lowest, or low rarity. Special methods are needed for extracting the bits that are useful. "

So...what are the special methods?

To answer you:

Artifact crafting - one would use those that you harvest as well, it's like additional sacrifice pieces to create more "purity". the higher the purity you can obtain, the higher the "grades" of the crafting. Just like red, orange, purple grades. To get RED grade, during the crafting mini-game, you need to have more purity and click-away those impurities. Those ores are the ones that would generate additional purity (as well as impurities) in order for you to obtain higher grades during Artifact crafting. However, the "core" item's purity is still the most important thing in determining the final grade.

Look at those items, the Artifact item core that used for crafting it and the additional Ores used to craft them (they have "Impurity" on the item at the end of item description).

Artifact refine
1) Upgrading your Artifact Level, when you forge them, it has a level stated on them, I.e. Golden Core, Origin Spirit, Soul Formation and etc. You can check the which Tier the Artifact is at in the Forge tab --- Press 'O' (ur profession page and also your Artifact page). (not the workshop in city).

2) Artifact refinement - it takes an item called, "Tempering" it has its own grade, like G5, G4, G3, G2, G1. G2 and G1 is not available yet. Harvesting would yield the tempering item is where it's the item for refinement (upgrading its level) of your Artifact.

You're not special enough to know.

Unfortunately, neither am I. Good question.

I am not sure, but I think the reason you get them is because the random herb you found is one you don't have the skill for. So it gives you those instead. I suppose they might really just be trash and maybe you can't fix it.
