Day one thoughts, crashes, and suggestions
What a cool program. Here are my day one thoughts on UEBS II:

  1. The application does not properly capture the cursor at times. I can easily end up with the cursor off the game onto another screen. Fortunately, it does not make the game stop when this happens.
  2. It is extremely hard on the large maps to find a small team. It would be nice to be able to select a team on the left and have the scroll zoom into that team.
    a. Alternately, you could double-click on the team or have a button that centers the team in the viewer.
    b. It seems like there are a lot of things you could do it you just allowed rows on the left to be “active.” For example, you could blink the group on the right. Or you could put up a big arrow pointing to the group.
  3. When the cursor is over the lists on the left (when building teams) the scroll not only scrolls the list (very slowly) it controls the map view. It should do one or the other, but not both, and it should depend on the location of the mouse cursor.
    a. In fact, the scroll sometimes controls the map even if the game is not active (I had clicked on Word to add to this document, the scroll zoomed the map in as well as moving the document in Word).
  4. The way the teams are done doesn’t seem like the most flexible. Instead of one big block, how about you allow a row to be selected then you use a paintbrush to paint units in the map (or erase them) until you reach the number of units shown in the table. It would simply paint the color on the map, so multiple polygons instead of a single rectangle.
  5. If you drop troops on the city maps, you end up with units on rooftops, etc. and some of them get stuck. It would be nice to be able to say, “Only place units on the ground.”
    a. Of course, fixing the units getting stuck would be a good idea as well.
  6. When controlling a single unit it appears to be nearly impossible to get the character to use stairs on buildings. Seems like I got that to work once, but mostly it just acts like the staircase is a wall.
  7. Why does the tank cause the zombies to launch miles into the air? Is this comedy effect or just a bug?
  8. When taking over a unit, it would be nice to be able to see its stats (how much life is left, how many enemies it has taken out, etc.).
  9. When looking at stats, it would be nice to see the totals of each kind of unit on the battlefield. Maybe this could be toggled on or off.
  10. I’ve seen soldiers (specifically gun units) getting stuck “on” meaning that there are no enemies (in fact it continued after the “won” message) but the unit is still firing.
    a. The soldier is in the “rest” position and it is still firing, so presumably the bug is in the gun animation since the soldier animation is not “aiming” when the gun is firing.
  11. I had at least one crash so far. I had created 6 teams, I had just changed a team from zombies to trolls. My first attempt to use trolls, but I had run several scenarios so it could have been leakage.
    a. There was no crash report dialog (if one exists).
    b. It came back up with the same configuration, and crashed when I tried to run the map.
    c. Changing the Trolls back to Zombies made the map work.
    d. I changed the map to having 3 million zombies with no problem, but the trolls must have more polys?
    e. If I turn the graphics down from Ultra to High, the crashing doesn’t happen. I’m looking to see how many I can have at High before it crashes.

  12. The “graphics quality” on the configuration application did not get reflected in the app. I had set “Ultra” in the configuration application, but in options in the game it said, “Potato.”
  13. I notice that when it crashed, it came back up with the same configuration that I created. This means there is already a function for saving the current configuration. Please let us save them intentionally (and reload them, obviously)?
  14. When a massive flow of blood enters a river, the river should turn reddish from there downstream. This seems to work for lakes, but not for rivers.
  15. You undoubtedly know this, but some walls do not stop characters from going through them and others do. It’s weird. I have screen shots if you want them.
  16. Also, some characters can breathe under water (trolls) but others can’t (zombies). Seems like it might be better the other way around. This is mainly noticeable if part of a group is in a river channel. Before the battle even starts the zombies are dead (deader?) but the trolls seem to be just fine. Tanks are also fine.
  17. The flood is fun, but it would be nice if it had a kinetic effect on characters (for example, if I dump a lot of water on a hill, it should wash the characters, dead and alive, down the hill with the water).
  18. I would really like to sort the group page by team or by unit type.
  19. When I grab a group block over the map, the line on the left should highlight in some way.
  20. For cinematic flythroughs, it would be nice to have more speed control than simply slow and fast. Maybe allow a joystick for speed, or maybe just ease-in and ease-out when pressing the ctrl key? Or, the 1,2,3,4 keys could be speeds to give more variety?
  21. I would love to see a generic “human” that I could place. Non-combatants.
  22. It would be cool if human units would turn into Zombies after being killed. Probably not magical creatures like trolls. I know, I just asked for double the models for the human units…
