There are problems everywhere, and? What stats do you use to formulate these statements?
And on top of that- it's rather obvious that when SP offering is very poor, and there's nothing to play, players interested in single-player (a majority of people in general) fall off quickly after going through everything the game has to offer.
Do you have polls where saying that the majority of people that bought the game, did it for the competitive scene? Please do share. Maybe that poll also covers the question about SP content and a vote against bringing more skirmish modes and campaigns.

Asking why people want to play against AI is simply astounding, as it's the standard and a foundation of vast, VAST majority of games ever created.

I'm starting to regret buying this game. Too bad. It really had a great potential, it has very good mechanics, such as cavalry charge and using forests to ambush the enemy. But it turns out it won't go so far. Maybe they'll release a new civ this year, another one next year. And that's it, be happy with that.

Thing is it's the right game at the hands of the wrong developers.
