Oh
AoE 2 ugly as sin tho
Wow Erb, everytime you show up in a thread, all my posts are magically getting jesters. What an interesting coincidence.
It still is, especially in its Definitive Edition (pathing issues aside).
AoE 4 is for people that want to play Medieval Starcraft 2 for 30-40 mins
It's a me, Mario?
In joc sunt 16 civilizatii.
Yeah it's old. The building art and the clarity looks nice, but that's about it. Ground is way too shiny, color scheme too basic. It struggles to keep up with modern standards. Oh, and the trees look nice as well, when they're not butchered by mods.
Thats kinda hilarious in the sense that i see the exact opposite of this. AoE 2 has crisp outlines and distinct animations for each unit. AoE4 has clay-like outlines and 2-4 different attack animations per unit, making giant battles kinda difficult to see any distinct unit information mid-chaos.
If the AoE4 units didnt have giant oversized weapons and an insanely saturated color palettes, it would be even worse
The only reason AoE2 has clear outlines is because the background is a picture. The units are blurrier in AoE2 and move like they're wind-up toys. This worked in 1999, but I don't think games released nowadays should have this kind of rigid animations.
On the other hand, the fact units have these default stances, and because they don't take up a clear space (they tend to stack), does have an upside by making it easier to distinguish them, despite them being tinier. In AoE4, if you a-move blobs of units it is harder to distinguish them. But usually players micro during fights, which causes units of each type to group closer together.
The only colors that are saturated are the team colors, which I don't mind at all. I personally think they look beautiful, especially yellow. The other colors are very subdued, and the game is very easy on the eyes.
If AoE4 has "giant oversized" weapons, then what does a game like Warcraft have? I think people are making this a bigger problem than it is.
