Rush better than them

In addition, if you're playing a civ that's 2 TC or castle rush, you'll need to build units that counter the enemy units naturally

-I personally think 3v3 is the hardest to play as it requires much more decision making. Especially for the pocket player.

-You can try 2v2 or 4v4 and see how those play out!

-But for 3v3s, I'm guessing either you or your friend is pocket, so I recommend watching the replay and see why your other flank is dying.

-Are they getting 2v1'd? Or are they getting outplayed simply on 1v1? Would supporting him with a couple scouts help? Or are pockets pure booming, etc.

Got a simular ELO. I do rushes. In 2vs2, its like i build men at arms and archer, my friend knights and some spears. that way we have all 4 import units. Usually i build the barracs in dark age and in feudal, my frensh partner had cavalery land mark + barracs and i got barracts + archery landmarc. 4 production buildings and we talk about which enemy to take out. Usually we pick those who have a hard time counter stuff and/or the player who is near or does not build a tower. Once one player is out of the picture (2vs2 3vs3 4vs4), the victory usually comes easy. So yeah, make a plan with your friends in dark age to be the first to rush in feudal and take out one opponent. guess that is what happens to you..

Defending in team matches is difficult as you cannot combine towers/castles of multiple player, as they are immobile and can go down if multiple armys attack. But you can combine armys as they are mobile. On most maps and with most civs rush is a good idea in MP. If you really want to play defensivly, i suggest all your player use HRE/OOSD/Japan/Chinese/Rus, as they have some capatiblity to defend themselve in feudal.

yea i prefer 2v2 but my friend says 3v3 is good cuz the random is the meat cussion, problem is we lost our random early last couple games as we enter the higher elos, players like explained earilier i guess they target one player early, so its more of a 2v1 when we loose the first, i go hard into eco early, with not even any military until the first age up, because i usually dont get attacked, cuz players target other guys, but i know if they did, i'd probably be in trouble. using the expansion factions like byzantines and japaneses, still getting used to them and not sure if its my gameplay or just that they suck at defending rushes? plz help

While okay against frensh or so, you need some spears before the knights arrive. Also later a tower or so. But first:

Don´t focus on defending rushes with immobile or slow paced units siting on each players base. Be the one who rushes. Otherwise you are just running after opponents army always being behind. Put the fight into the enemy base, then you can kill villagers instead of having villagers killed. Unite your mobile forces in one enemy base. Once one opponent can defend himselve (tower, defensive feudal landmark or by uniteing all armys there, move on to the next vanualbe target. have your scouts scout around towncenters for vonualbe villagers at gold mines, stone mines, mills and wood lines. Having them invest in immobile defensive spending ressources and spending clcking time (apm). be pro active not reactive (rush not be rushed.) Team coodinated rushs (and lategame coop) is what makes age of empires 4 so much fun.

Mind me joining your 2vs to make it a 3vs?

Team game is toxic, you will always have low skill player gang up on you while your team mate boom for 15 minutes and instant surrender after dying bunch of spearman to some archer.

The fact that 2 guy can ram rush you with twice ram is enough to make you goes insane.

Play 1v1, if you don't have friend to play with in team game.

Sure thanks id be down add me on here! Always lookin for more allies!

I had a great 4 win streak using japan, using their light infantry unit, managed to hold off a mad 3 player rush at the random teamates base, then got thise huge meaty army only to have the enemy all quit before i eeven got to use it =/ lol.

Haha is that no skill or just too much skill? lol. But yea ive noticed that too, soon as some players loose their first fight, they leave. But i kinda feel for these new guys cuz u gotta think they r prolly brand new to the gsme n dont realize they can come back and might be playing against some guy who has been playing the game since the first age of empires came out decages ago LOL. Same thing in coh multiplayer too. Ive been finding aussie drogos youtube videos are great but there could be some vids to help out the even newer players i feel.

Just about every strategy game is "rush" wins. Why I think maps need to be so much bigger or units need to be slower.

Build walls with your buildings (heard of house walls?).

I dont dig the rush strats either but the skirmishes outside the bases r cool

In my experience, team games can be frustrating with random teammates. Either team up with friends only, or accept that playing with random teammates can be tough and not let it frustrate you anymore. I often do the latter.

Thats a think in age of empires 2, not age 4. In age 4 usually troops or a tower is used to defend. Walls too to a certan degree, but not houses.

It´s the 2nd most played classic RTS on steam. First one being Age 2, but in my experience player are more experienced there and age 4 is more casual friendly, due to comfort features.

The most player (average player) in age 4 have about 1000 ELO. Thats about Gold II ranking. (It´s bronze I to bronze III to Silver to Gold, to Platin, to Diamond to Conquerer).
https://aoe4world.com/stats/qm_1v1/ladder

Everyone can check their ELO once played at least a few games in the respective competition using their age of empires 4 user name:
https://aoe4world.com/stats/qm_1v1/matchups

If you don´t have it (ELO 1000 / Gold II) learn by playing more games, until defeating the 4th diffiulity of 7 difficutlitys vs. computer, incoorperate some more strategys from youtube videos while playing more 1vs1 quick matches.

Then you play against people you can beat 50% of the time. At least in europa that works, i think depending on the time there are a bit better/worse player online.
