It maybe weird, but it is something that is taking off lately
It allows the devs to support modding on all versions of their games, PC and consoles alike.
We have seen several games use this now, anno 1800 for example, I know there is another with mod.io integration but can't remember name of game.
I think that's why though, dying light 2 has mods that are built in now as well, but not all it's a hybrid system so that's a + on PC
Unfortunately because consoles have become close to PC's in power the devs are trying to keep games open to all players. Back in the day only PC's had the power for mods and not just the base game, plus Xbox and PlayStation made it hard not doing crossolatform etc to mod.
Now with cross play everything, more powerful consoles etc
Modding that supports all platforms isn't going anywhere.
This is why we have built in mods...
NOthing wrong with it.
The Main problem is still the general Mod System that Relic implemented
The Mod System is causing problems again and again. And this issue has been there since the first implementation in CoH 1 , continued with CoH 2 , and now on AoE 4 aswell.
there is chance of 1/5 that the automatic Mod DL won't function properly.
I play regulary modded games, and nearly in every game, i get 1-2 persons where the Mod System refuses to DL the Mod on a automatic way.
And this Issues existed since CoH1! Till today.
This has nothing to do with supporting Modding across multiple platforms via the same System. But rather a Code Problem introduced by Relic Devs.
And this problem persists until today, including the olders games CoH1 - CoH 2
Where the Mod System constantly malfunction or at least doesn't work properly.
And because of this i don't want to rely on a particially broken mod system (not fully functional Mod System)
And i repeat i blame specificly Relic for it, since this is an issue that has been part of other Games aswell.
I repeat this is not a Support modding across multiple Platforms issue.
It's a Code issue because of the way Relic implemented it.
A problem that persists along diffrent games, just shows and proves the bad coding of this implemented system by Relic.
ever since the Advanced Game settings broke after the patch , I stopped playing completely.
There are stances and formations when you select a group of units - it is the same as other aoe games
Feel free to contact game developers on their forums to offer them your expert advice on how to run the mod system better
+1
Yet afte rall that time, they still didn't which just shows and proves the disrespect for some of the Customers and more important the laziness doing only the bare minimum for this game.

Read what i wrote, and compare it to what you wrote please.
Also it's unlikely that the devs of the game will share the code for the particial broken Mod System for various reasons including Contracts.
