since the game is somewhere between 1200 - 1500, so.....it's a bit after the vikings established a strategic presence over some countries, so it's less of a "raid" and more like a proper war between nations.
I wonder what other civ they can bring to the table, any ideas?
Just a detail
Like Germans are Holy Roman Empire (and Teutons in AoE2)
I disagree actually. I think that AoE IV possibly could date as far back as 1000 A.D or C.E instead of the 13th century.
Norway would probably be the Viking nation, and I think it should be fine to add them, maybe especially being good with early aggression and raiding, and perhaps in their mechanics capable of staying with the Norse gods or becoming Christian. Could depend on their landmarks. Their castle age landmark could affect this similar to the Japanese.
One could enable knights and the other could maybe give additional upgrades for their viking unit so it stays relevant in the late game.
Norway could maybe be paired with the Scottish, and irish could be a variant of the Scottish or the other way around.
I think Spain is a big contender to add, possibly combined with the Moors and a reconquista campaign.
Italian states could work, being variants from the start perhaps. Venice, Milan and Genoa for example, could all be variants of each other, sharing much of the same roster but each having their own landmarks, at least one unique unit of their own and some unique techs.
If Spanish were to added along with Berbers or Moors (Berber variant?) that possibly could mean no Aztecs as well. The reason why is because it would make more sense for Aztecs, Mayans, and Incas to be included together rather than sold from seperate dlc. These three civilizations are also distinct enough that none of them would be variants on AoE IV. I can however imagine Leon (Alfonso VI)/Aragon being a variant in the future for the Spanish on AoE IV from a seperate dlc.
They have no cavalry, siege or much in the way of ships.
It's better to stick with civs that do have those things, who fit better with the gameplay. Besides, that's pretty much the end of the medieval period.
Would be better to save the meso-americans for a future AOE game focused entirely on the pike and shot era. Still hoping for that personally because it's often overlooked.
If Italians eventually come to AoE IV (although, I am not 100% certain of this because of the Holy Roman Empire) they would probably have a variant civilization (Venice?) added later, but the Spanish are more likely to come before Italians to AoE IV.
