We do not have many options in RTS aside of AoE..
You should check Northgard
https://store.steampowered.com/app/466560/Northgard/
another option is Cossacks 3
https://store.steampowered.com/app/333420/Cossacks_3/
For me, it is inferior AoE style game, but some people like it
that sounds like You want a city-builder

Make sure to download the 1.5 mod for Empire Earth 2.
If you like Science Fiction, Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds might be something for you - it's basically AoE 2 with a Star Wars skin:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/356500/STAR_WARS_Galactic_Battlegrounds_Saga/
Games like Settlers and Northgard which are slower RTS that are more focused on base building than combat might also be an option.
Paradox Grand strategy games with map painting instead of base building and combat might also be something for you if you want long games.
Its has a genuinely fun campaign with actual story. The customization map are also very fun to mess around with.
Warcraft 3 is great, even the Reforge version is good - i own it. The problem with reforge is not the game itself, but the "unfulfilled promises" from developers - they publicly promised new UI, new cutscenes in SP campaign and did not make it at the end. But You can ignore it, especially, if You want to play SP campaign - original cutscenes are good, they do not really need to replace
Ancestors Legacy uses Company of Heroes RTS template, but it has free demo on steam, so everybody can try it

This game is nr. 1 in my wishlist, it will be released this year
If somebody is interested in "classic RTS", be sure to check it
Dune 2000 and Emperor Battle for Dune had infinite resources. Other C&C titles too but you get very low income after resources are finished.
For non C&C games I would say Dark Reign and Battle for Middle Earth.
With medieval theme Stronghold have infinite resources and you can get a neverending siege.
Empire Earth also have ages and some infinite resources, but factions are too similar.
Warcraft 3 Is strange....even warcarft 2 has more in common with aoe 4. The bigger Is your army the more you are punished because there Is the upkeep. The focus Is to develop the heroes rather than the economy.
Well i noticed AoE4 is basically a Clone in gameplay and Graphics of Empire Earth that came out in year 2001... Search on empire dawn of the modern world
