game similiar to AOE 4
Hello, can you guys recommend any game thats similiar to AOE? Iam new to strategy games in general, but i do enjoy the building and combat.
Iam looking for a game thats pretty much like AOE 4 but that lasts much longer - meaning that I want to play like 50hrs and more on one map, pimping my city and stuff.
Let me know if you have any tips.

rts is a genre that be definition is in real time. It sounds more like you want something that's turn based, like Civilization (any one but 5). Humankind is another that is 80% off right now, but reviews weren't the best. There is others if you look for "4x". As for rts games that long, I don't know.

side note. Vs the hardest AI's, with proper trade and farms, we had games lasting up to 4 hours.

We do not have many options in RTS aside of AoE..

You should check Northgard

https://store.steampowered.com/app/466560/Northgard/

another option is Cossacks 3

https://store.steampowered.com/app/333420/Cossacks_3/

For me, it is inferior AoE style game, but some people like it

If you have a GOG account and don't mind older games, then Empire Earth 1 & 2 might be something you like:

https://www.gog.com/de/game/empire_earth_gold_edition

https://www.gog.com/de/game/empire_earth_2_gold

Make sure to download the 1.5 mod for Empire Earth 2.

If you like Science Fiction, Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds might be something for you - it's basically AoE 2 with a Star Wars skin:

Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds Saga with the Expanding Fronts mod, the mod adds 7 (15 civilizations in total with the mod) new civilizations, new maps, campaigns and etc. best mod and highly recommend it.

AI Wars and Sins of the Solar empire as real time 4x games might be partly what you are looking for. Those are more about taking over solar systems than city building.

Games like Settlers and Northgard which are slower RTS that are more focused on base building than combat might also be an option.

Paradox Grand strategy games with map painting instead of base building and combat might also be something for you if you want long games.
Ancestors Legacy maybe....

I feel really old for saying this but Warcraft 3 still hold up imo. No not the reforge, if you can somehow get your hand on a original version of Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne its definitely worth playing. I still have my old copy from the 2000s and I still play it time to time.

Its has a genuinely fun campaign with actual story. The customization map are also very fun to mess around with.

Warcraft 3 is great, even the Reforge version is good - i own it. The problem with reforge is not the game itself, but the "unfulfilled promises" from developers - they publicly promised new UI, new cutscenes in SP campaign and did not make it at the end. But You can ignore it, especially, if You want to play SP campaign - original cutscenes are good, they do not really need to replace

Ancestors Legacy uses Company of Heroes RTS template, but it has free demo on steam, so everybody can try it

This is not really AoE style game, but spiritual successor of Command & Conquer - another "classic RTS" with base building. The developers claim, that they want to bring the style of C&C Tiberian Sun

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1486920/Tempest_Rising/

This game is nr. 1 in my wishlist, it will be released this year

If somebody is interested in "classic RTS", be sure to check it

war selection is very similar and is free to play. the team matches tend to last pretty long

With infinite resources the map will last very long.
Dune 2000 and Emperor Battle for Dune had infinite resources. Other C&C titles too but you get very low income after resources are finished.
For non C&C games I would say Dark Reign and Battle for Middle Earth.
With medieval theme Stronghold have infinite resources and you can get a neverending siege.
Empire Earth also have ages and some infinite resources, but factions are too similar.

Warcraft 3 Is strange....even warcarft 2 has more in common with aoe 4. The bigger Is your army the more you are punished because there Is the upkeep. The focus Is to develop the heroes rather than the economy.
