Problems with lag, high CPU usage, and other game performance issues

villagers commanded to do something but wont start until you come back to them. Sometimes they go back to idle on no reason at all.

I have taunts enabled but whenever someone or I write a taunt, the audio dampens but no line is being played. I was able to at some earlier point ofc.
TLDR Can't hear taunts.

Before a month, I used to play in high graphics settings for 24h and no issue at all.
Now every time I start a match, I got black screen!! And I must restart the PC!

I cleaned my whole PC 0 files + deleted the game and downlaod it again + scanned by anti-viruses + deleted my video card driver and download it again + update drivers and my PC system + cleaned my PC = I still face the same problem!!!

Now I can only play in low graphics settings :frowning:

My PC:

i7 6700k
AMD R9 390 8GB
RAM 16gb 3000MHz DDR4

How to fix it?

There is one relevant question to be asked first : did this issue started to occur after a patch(game update) if so then there is f'all that you should do(the devs screwed up) other then wait for the devs to issue a fix (hopefully) in the near future...

If i would have to bet on what is happening: your GPU is overheating and gets shut down to prevent dmg to it... likely because of a game patch that unintentionally makes your R9 to perform some unnecessary very repetitive&intense calculations that make it overheat.
Guess its perhaps worth it for you to try to enable free sync(i think its called on amd, nvidia calls theyrs vsynch) and see if that helps,, alternatively boosting up the cooling fans may do the trick.

Either way you got a fair bit of experimenting to do to figure out what exactly is causing this and id start out from trying to run the game with minimum graphics setting and if it runs ok work my way up enabling one setting at a time till i find what is the reason/threshold where the black screen occurs.

Best of luck to you, as the devs for this game (Relic) are infamous for they slow response to such issues or outright ignore they existence if it only affects a very small portion(like say R9 series users) of theyr players...

Hello,
On this game, and ONLY on this game and NO OTHER game whatsoever, when I try to link my xbox profile, I cannot because the text on that option grayed out, with the message saying "account linking is unavailable while offline". Yes, not only am I totally online, but all the other servers in AGE 4 show as online. This has been months long. Is there some programs that produce this affect? Like I say, every single other game has NO trouble with my xbox profile. This game is the LONG and ONLY game with this trouble. If the devs removed that text and that option and simply replaced it with a Link button, like every other game has, this would fix everything

I was having he same issue. I went to aoe4 in steam library -> properties -> betas and changed beta participation to previous live. I managed to launch the game but there's no one on it. I went back and disabled beta participation and tried launching again and it worked. Hope this helps!

It works, but I have to stick with the "previous live" version; otherwise, it doesn’t work. Thank you for your help; now I can enjoy the game again.

You need to find *AOE IV* in your Steam library, right-click on it, then go to "Properties" as mentioned above, and select "Betas" and change the beta participation to "previous live." The game will then download about 1GB of updates. After that, you can enjoy playing!

devs start a thread and want you to do all the foot work and contact them some other place other than here and this thread still has people posting their problems and not one time has a dev took another look at this thread. the devs are just a joke and if they really wanted to fix anything they would program an in game bug report system. but the cold blooded truth to the matter is that they are just plum lazy and will never care what you people post here. i would love for one of them to actually read this and prove me wrong but i know they wont. they dont really care about any of us... they already have our money why are we play testing for free on top of being the people that pay for the game? see, again... they have our money and they just want us to help them make more money... thanks to the devs of aoe4, i will never buy a single thing from them ever again in my life.
