Also you can play skirmish maps
I've played completely through 2 of the campaigns, and partially on the other 2, and I'm starting to play games against the AI.
I'm still having fun with it.
I play crafted maps (mods) in skirmish mode and focus on building over battle, though it always ends with a battle (have played 120+ hours)... - this is a fun game and I can see many more hours playing it
The missions get a little repetitive after a while, the units lack variety and personally I would have loved to see more from an Age of Empires game with regard to the campaign(s) but it is what it is.
The movies (cutscenes) are really well done though with modern day scenes and a kind of historical overlay.
On easy difficulty, and if you are a builder and a "turtle" who likes taking it slow while building up the biggest attack force that the population limit allows, playing through all of the campaigns should keep you busy for somewhere between ~40-ish and ~50-ish hours.
You can do it much faster if you are an efficient player who just tackles the objectives as quickly as possible.
When you are done with the campaigns, you can basically spend unlimited amounts of time in skirmish matches.
Skirmish allows you to try out other civs as well. Unfortunately, not all civs have their own campaign so some of them are only available in other game modes.
So, on a whole, you can definitely play this game in single player for a pretty long time, yes.
Nah, AOE2 offers a lot of Single Player(SP) content.
AOE2's AI's are better for skilled and beginner players.
AOEIV is just a lackluster of a game.
It lacks SP content and MP players base and has a stupid AI.
Lots of unfinished contents, effects, graphical adjustments, units, etc etc.
You know, that he is asking for AoE4 , not AoE2 :)
Yes
Because of this alone, this game has my favorite Age of campaign mode. The whole campaign itself is kind of short, though, if you play it on normal, but the missions are varied and interesting enough, and these documentaries are gold, each one is like a candy, it remembered me the old Playstation 1 times, when I was eager to unlock my new favourite JRPG's next cutscene.
You also can play versus IA in skirmish/custom solo games and make whatever your want, with or without AI allies, you might have some fun there ! Overall, you might not spend hundred of hours on this game solo, but you should have fun enough and enjoy it as long as lasts, and why not keep it installed to come back to it from time to time.
As others said, there is a coop mode, you can play 4 players vs 4 AI in custom games or in matchmaking, it's fun enough. My girl, who is not into PVP that much, have spent an enormous time and had a lot of fun with this mode alone.
I've read that you will have to spend at least 100 hours to unlock all achievements, the campaign is quite nice I'm surprised by the quality of it, have already 10 hours in the second campaign and didn't even tried any skirmish yet. I'm more into fps games but this game is really nice, makes me remember of the good old days of age 2 but with better graphics. Then you have skirmish, few challenges and so on, and the possibility of playing online against AI, so this game has a great replayability value
Create a win-condition-tierlist with two Abbasid-AI opponents (Abbasid-Villager production speed is halfed).
---------------------------
In mods, download the mod PelzkappeTierlistWithAbbasid. Or create the mod with the name you want: change abbasid villager production time from 20 to 40 - done. (in the content editor)
In single-player, select PelzkappeTierlistWithAbbasid. (or your mod)
Select small map (4players).
Select 2 AI opponents.
Select same team for both AI.
Select Abbasid for both AI.
Select gather rate +1.5 for both AI.
-------------------
Reason for this mod:
Tower rush is yet too strong against a single AI for tierlist-creation. Awhile the AI is in progress itself you can already now create your tierlist about the available win-conditions in AoE4 with this mod (+ two AI-opponents selected). This is possible because of the scaleable cheat intensity of the AI. The times you will need are quiet the same like in online matches:
I got 21 min with deli (sacred site), 27 min with HRE fast castle with castle drop, 25 min English with King.
A pro player would have all times already but...
--------------------
Why Abbasid:
Against this civ there are 4 Landmarks to destroy in order of the landmark-tierlist to create.
