Does the AI Cheat?

Forgive me for asking, but the intermediate AI seems way harder in AoE 4 than it does in Aoe 3.

No.

Only hardest ai cheats (with double resources), because the nub devs replaced the hardest ai with the new one, instead of making it a rank higher than that (like calling it 'insane'). However, they know no one likes it, so on next update they are adding the hardest back and raising the current hardest to a new level, supposedly.

It doesnt get any resource cheats until the hardest difficulty currently. If I recall the intermediate AI in AOE3 is a fair bit weaker than AOE4 one. AOE4 AI tends to do a lot more raiding and general aggression which might be catching you out. AOE4's intermediate is probably more like AOE3's hard so you might want to consider dropping down a difficulty until you get used to it.

I don't know if the AI has any 'map cheats' as it is quite good at knowing where your villagers are and attacking them but they could also just be scouting them or just marching men around the edges of your territory in the hope they get lucky

Weird!!I was just playing, defeated an army in a neutral zone, keeping what's left of my army on the sacred place to win while my teammate was backing after destroying 3/4 of their town. Yet I saw a full army with elites and drive appear from the shadows near the sacred area.
