AoE 4
https://youtu.be/1w-gEiR6MaQ
Note, that AoE2 DE is cheaper and has more (a lot) single player content
+1 for AoE4, but that my personal opinion
As you play CoH2, you'll probably wanna try AoE 4 then because it's the same developer.
Age 2 > Age 4
If you want a good prize
Currently Age 2 > Age 4
If you want a more forgiven game in the beginning of the game
Age 4 > Age 2
If you want the biggest player base
Age 2 > Age 4
If you want the best graphics
Age 3 > (Age 2 <> Age 4)
If you want units on walls
Age 4 > Age 2-3
If you want accessablity over deepth
Age 4 > Age 2
Whats imporant to you when starting a new RTS?
If you want Single Player content (official or custom): Age2
?
Age 2 has more player and more challenging opponents if you play eSports.
Age 4 is very accessable, if you use tutorial vids. Have a higher winning rate after a few hours, then after playing age 2 for many hours, as most people in age2, know the game in and out.
Esport? AoE2 and/or AoE4.
Multiplayer: AoE4
Bigger community, lots of coolness, cheaper, more content, not as repetitive as AOE4 and got better combat.
AOE4 is too repetitive, combat is boring, no cool aspect and got little community. So it will take ages to find a game on MP and has little SP content and AIs are stupid
Which is something that shouldn't be too surprising considering 2 is out for a while now. AoE 2's community grew over time and so will the one from AoE 4.
A remaster of a 1999 game has more content than the new entry that was released in 2021? Wow.
Ehh... people complain that AoE 2 is the same old Archer and Knights meta. AoE 4 tried to shake that up by making MAA actually viable.
Last time I queued up for ranked/quick play in AoE 4, it took me iirc 2 minutes to find a game - just as in AoE 2. It depends heavily on the time of the day.
That being said - both are good games in their own right, they are not rivals. That being said, I'd suggest trying both, maybe AoE 4 first due to the CoH background.
