Are the single player campaigns good enough?
I've been reading reviews of AOE4 of people I trust and they all say game is pure garbage in account of bugs, bad optimization, terrible UI and not cully customizable keys and shortcuts.
Multiplayer is very harshly criticized as well, and even today most players say its unplayable. Does it even have a good story/voice acting at the very least? Since game is at 25% its original price I am starting to consider it to buy it, but I haven't read a single praise to the game other than good unit design.

I loved warcraft 3 and SC2 for its stories and gameplay, I still play aoe2 because multiplayer is amazing. The Dawn of War series 1-2 I liked for its gameplay and still haven't played 3.

Do you think at least the single player campaign in aoe4 is worth it?

its more than a story driven. its like you go to history class and actually having fun with you play the scenario. There is also playable unique hero like Joan the Arc or king William the conqueror.

for now theres 4 campaign out of 8 unique civ. and when i tell you they are very unique. not like aoe2 where you get a little bit bonus here and there. Its a completely different style to play each civ.

Campaign alone to finish all 4 would take about 20-40 hours gameplay depending on difficulty you settings chose.

its an RTS having wildly different ways to play each race is not good or fun, thats why we only have 8 dumb races instead of many good races that we had in age2. also ANOTHER joan of arc campaign... lmao.

I played all of the age ll campaigns except some of the conquerors, but for age IV I found it boring, only beat two campaigns in hard, so if you come from age 2 probably you will get disappointing especially with the campaign narrator.

It is on warcraft 3 and Starcraft 2. I am tempted to buy the game, but I haven't read anything positive yet, and since age 3 sucked hard... I am skeptical to buy it. AOE 2 is a masterpiece, specially DE

There are only 3 or 4 races TOTAL on those games and it never changes, this is a game where you expect to be able to play as one of the 20+ races that we had on age2, thats the difference.

I would avoid it...there are so many other superior ones out there to waste time on(if you really must)...such as sop com 1, and 2, or aoe2: de...

I see the AoE4 campaign as a primer to get into the game for the multiplayer modes. As a start, "how to". Personaly, i did just swish it trough for the achievement sake.

I did and enjoy WC, same with SC2. But I can't really compare these games to the AoE series other than that all 3 games are viewed from a bird's eye view.

AoE2 isn't a bad game either. It's a more complete game than AoE4 is at the moment. Just remember this. AoE2 didn't come out with the extra content it has now and do not get the illusion that AoE2 is a bug free game, it isn't. Original AoE2 released in 1999 followed up with several spinoffs. By 2022, AoE2-xx is more polished and has more content than AoE4 currently has, there's no hiding from that. But I have no doubt that AoE4 will be hammered out to the extent it can be hammered out, and more content will be released (whether through DLC or/and the modding community).

As someone said in a above post. Play AoE4 for x days for free and you will know if you like it or not.

I would love to see those reviews. Not only are they wrong, but they've been wrong for awhile now. You might notice a bug if you're at the top level, but probably not. As long as you're not running it on a potato it runs well. The UI is fine. Keys are 99% customizable now with the exception of the grid and cards existing.

Multiplayer is very harshly criticized as well, and even today most players say its unplayable.
What exactly is being criticized? Even today? Balance is the best its ever been with near 50% win rate for all civs within a +/-4% deviation. The biggest tournament so far producing some of the best matches so far is ongoing.
How is it unplayable? Every civ is very unique in terms of gameplay styles, aesthetics, and audio, and mechanics. BTW were getting two more very unique among the unique civs in a couple months for free.

Does it even have a good story/voice acting at the very least? Since game is at 25% its original price I am starting to consider it to buy it, but I haven't read a single praise to the game other than good unit design.
I'll be honest and say I don't care about the single player campaigns at all. If you're only going to play for the singleplayer sure you'll have a good time for a little while, but this game is about the multiplayer for me and the competitive scene imo. Although team games are very fun. That said the sound design, music, and languages your units speak are dynamic changing as you age. It's one of the best for all games IMO.

I loved warcraft 3 and SC2 for its stories and gameplay, I still play aoe2 because multiplayer is amazing. The Dawn of War series 1-2 I liked for its gameplay and still haven't played 3.

DoW3 got a lot of flack because it wasn't dow2 remake. it did have bad balance issues at the start but looking at it objectively I would say it was a pretty good game. I certainly got my money's worth out of it.
As I said you can have fun with the campaigns, but it's all about the multiplayer for me.

I really enjoyed the single player campaign. Not sure why everyone is complaining about it,
It gives you a nice history course and help you understand the game mechanic for the different faction.

Most trustworthy AOE youtuber is spirit of the law, you can search for "10 biggest changes to aoe4 in 2022", which lists the RECENT changes. You couldn't even choose random civ, ladder or color!! That's bonkers, even on aoe1 you could choose your color. Also the camera seems to pan rather than zoom.

Everything is being criticized, except balance. But there are several bugs, like a couple of infinite resources ones, stackable upgrades or infinite range.

I ill download and test it though.

This is not Age2

Age3 and Age4 work with different format, lesa "races",but more different

The single player isn't very good, maybe worth a weekend or two of entertainment but the scenarios are pretty stale and the objectives are often a boring matter of building the appropriate army to get you from point a to point b. The missions are tiring and have low replay value. MP is much better.
