Also you can get #1 of Empire Earth for $6, and the other 2 for $10, on Good Ol' Games.
GOG takes care of the data to make it work on newer systems while in 90% of the case Steam doesn't care at all to make it run on newer systems. Causing alot of problems for buyers on steam. (Games not working etc. )
As others pointed out - the entire Empire Earth series is on GOG. There's a mod called "NeoEE" which even enables online play since the original servers were shut down.
To answer your question: You can zoom in but not as close as in Empire Earth.
And well.. Empire Earth 1 was made by the same guy who made Age of Empires 1, so you'll feel at home when playing any Age game :)
